Model-actress Nimrat Kaur was born on March 13, 1982, into a Sikh family in Pilani, Rajasthan. She has a younger sister named Rubina, who is a psychiatrist based in Bangalore.
Nimrat studied at Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi, and obtained a B.A. in economics followed by an MBA.
After completing her studies, Nimrat Kaur moved to Mumbai and started out as a print model, later shifting her focus to theatre. She has appeared in plays such as Baghdad Wedding, All About Women and Red Sparrow, and has worked with directors like Sunil Shanbag and Manav Kaul.
Nimrat has also done a few music videos and television advertisements too. She was launched in a two-part music video for the songs 'Tera Mera Pyar' by Kumar Sanu and 'Yeh Kya Hua' by Shreya Ghoshal in 2004.

Did you know Nimrat's father, Bhupender Singh, was an army officer? In 1994, when Nimrat was just 12, her father was abducted and killed by terrorists.
Nimrat Kaur made her acting debut with a small role in an English film, One Night with the King (2006). Her Bollywood debut, however, came with the 2012 film Peddlers produced by Anurag Kashyap. The film was even screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
Nimrat made a second visit to Cannes in 2013 for her film The Lunchbox alongside Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The film received glowing reviews in international film festival circuits.

Nimrat is also a popular face in Hollywood. In 2014, the actress starred in the American TV series Homeland in a supporting role. Nimrat has also portrayed Rebecca Yedlin in the second season of the American television series Wayward Pines.

In 2016, Nimrat acted alongside Akshay Kumar in the war drama Airlift. The film was based on the evacuation of Indians based in Kuwait during the 1990 Iraq-Kuwait war. The film received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.

In 2017, Nimrat starred in a web series called The Test Case. The series is about Nimrat Kaur, as Captain Shikha Sharma, training to be the first woman test case in a combat role within the Indian Army.
Speaking to IANS about her role in The Test Case and if she would have joined the army if she weren't an actor, Nimrat had said, "I wanted to grow up and be an army officer because I used to see my father put on the uniform and leave for work every day and I thought there was no other better profession in the world because you got to wear a gorgeous uniform, had shiny ranks on and your shoes were shining every day."

The Airlift actress is also a health and fitness enthusiast. She is a big proponent of yoga and frequently shares pictures of herself performing various yoga asanas.
Nimrat Kaur can currently be seen on the eighth and final season of the hugely popular American show Homeland.
