Legendary ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas passed away on Monday, February 26 following a prolonged illness. His last rites will be held today at his residence in Mumbai

Pankaj Udhas' family too reached the funeral site. While confirming the news of the gazal maestro's demise, the family wrote, "With profound sadness, we inform you of the passing of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on February 26th due to a prolonged illness. -- The Udhas Family"
Musician Shankar Mahadevan was spotted arriving at the house of the singer. Recalling the Ghazal maestro, Mahadevan told to the media, "He had a positive approach towards everything in life. May God give his family abundant strength to bear this big loss. I am in a state of shock."
Sonu Nigam was also clicked as he reached to pay last respect to the gazal legend. While extending his condolences, Sonu Nigam wrote, "One of the most important part of my childhood, is lost today. Shri Pankaj Udhas ji, I will miss you forever. My heart cries knowing that you are no more. Thank you for being there. Om Shanti"
Salim Merchant, who went to attend Pankaj Udhas' funeral, mourned the passing of the singing stalwart, saying, "He entertained us for many years and boosted and enriched our industry through his evergreen ghazals and other songs. He spread the message of love and oneness through his songs."
