After making headlines for her romantic alliance with Rahul Mahajan on the reality show Bigg Boss in 2008, Payal Rohatgi revealed in 2012 that she is dating wrestler Sangram Singh, whom she met on another reality show, Survivor India. (All photos/Payal Rohatgi's official Instagram account)
"I met him on the show and the chemistry struck. He is very down-to-earth and a simple guy. In fact, he is the complete opposite of me," said Payal in an interview in 2012. Survivor India, the Indian version of US adventure reality show Survivor, had 11 celebrity contestants and 11 commoners. Payal Rohatgi, Shilpa Agnihotri, JD Majethia, Sangram Singh, Abhinav Shukla, Karan Patel, Timmy Narang, Sylvester Rodgers a.k.a. Sylvie, Priyanka Bassi, Rajesh Khera and Munisha Khatwani were the known names in the show.
"I get hyper and throw tantrums, but he is much more rooted. He kept me calm during stressful times in the show (Survivor India 1). Somehow we clicked. And to be honest, I feel I lasted in the show because of him and his friendship," she had said in an interview.
While Payal Rohatgi is known for her special roles in films such as 36 China Town, Corporate (O Sikander song), Dhol, Dil Kabaddi (opposite Irrfan Khan), wrestler Sangram Singh won gold medals in wrestling in the Commonwealth Games and is also the recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award and Rajiv Gandhi Award. Payal calls Sangram 'A man with a golden heart'.
The couple even worked together in a film called Valentines Night, which released in 2012. Though the film bombed at the Box Office.
Payal Rohatgi may have been involved in (or created!) a lot of controversies but she confessed that she started feeling she is in an extremely happy space after she met Sangram Singh.
Payal Rohatgi and Sangram Singh's relationship has been going strong for nine years now. When asked about their marriage plans, she said, "Every committed individual wants a future for his or her relationship. We are inseparable and so we are seen together everywhere. At the moment, Sangram and I are concentrating on our careers as we both come from humble backgrounds and don't have godfathers to foot our bills. We want to secure ourselves before taking the vows."
Quite evidently, Payal and Sangram's personalities are poles apart. So has he changed her and vice versa, we asked, and here's what the actress said, "Both of us constructively change each other as Sangram has made me less impulsive. I, on the other hand, advice him about the dos and don'ts of the industry as I have more experience of it. But apart from that, we let each other be — individual space and growth are very important."
Sangram is the best thing that has happened in Payal Rohatgi's life, clearly! The actress went on record to say that the wrestler-turned-model loves Payal more than himself.
It is because of Sangram Singh that Payal Rohatgi has apparently given up the so-called fake lifestyle of partying, etc, as the actress enjoys his company and his honesty. "He is very simple, yet intelligent. He is ambitious and wants to achieve more in life and above all he is loyal," said Payal in an interview with mid-day.
While Payal Rohatgi appeared in Bigg Boss - Season 2, in 2013, beau Sangram Singh too participated in the controversial reality show's Season 7.
Payal Rohatgi too visited Sangram in the Bigg Boss 7 house as part of a special task. Singh emerged as the third runner-up of the show.
When asked will she marry Sangram once he comes out of the Bigg Boss 7 house, she said, "There is a lot that you want to say and share, but only with your boyfriend or best friend. I do miss him a lot and hopefully, we will (get married soon)."
In March 2014, Payal Rohatgi and Sangram Singh got engaged. "Today on this auspicious day of Mahashivratri I am engaged to my jaan Sangram Singh. Thank you Lord Shiva for your blessings always," Payal tweeted.
In 2018, the buzz about their marriage was doing the rounds! However, the couple is yet to announce the D-Day.
