Apart from Hindi, he did playback singing in Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, and Assamese films
The legendary singer was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1971, the Padma Bhushan in 2005 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2007
Dey married Sulochana Kumaran from Kerala in 1953. Sulochana died in Bangalore in January 2012. She had been suffering from cancer
Having spent more than 50 years in Mumbai, Dey shifted to Bangalore, where he spent his last days
Dey's Bengali autobiography, Jiboner Jalsaghorey was published in 2005. The book has been translated in English (Memories Come Alive), Hindi (Yaden Jee Uthi) and Marathi (Jiboner Jalsaghorey)
Dey even lent his voice for Madhushala composed by Late Harivansh Rai Bachchan
