Zarina Wahab: Hope to do justice to the character

Chandrashekhar Azad, the Indian revolutionary, has often featured in movies — The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002) and Rang De Basanti (2006) — to name a few, but rarely has his full story been captured on the silver screen. Bringing the biopic on the freedom fighter alive on screen is director Darsan Kumar Sant.

Hero of Nation Chandrashekhar Azad will focus on his relationship with his mother who stood by him for years while he was out laying his life for the country. The role will be essayed by Zarina Wahab, who stood by him “Kabir [Ahmad Kabir Shadan, who will play Azad on screen] came to me for this role. He informed that this is the first film on Azad,” says Wahab.

The role comes with a lot of responsibility and “is a huge honour”, says the actor, adding, “I have the details about the character. It’s a challenge that I accepted. Hope to do justice with it.” The film will go on floors in the first week of November in Prayagraj.
