(From left) Zeenat Aman, Abhay Deol and Shabana Azmi headline director Faraz Arif Ansari’s film exploring the parent-child bond

‘Bun Tikki is my love letter to every child and parent’: Faraz Arif Ansari

Director Faraz Arif Ansari’s maiden feature film, Bun Tikki, is off to a promising start. The Shabana Azmi, Zeenat Aman and Abhay Deol-starrer will have its world premiere at the 36th Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) in California on January 5. This gives a surge of confidence to not only the debutant feature director, but also to fashion designer-turned-producer Manish Malhotra who chose it as his second production after Saali Mohabbat. For their maiden feature, Ansari wanted to explore the parent-child relationship. Bun Tikki tells the story of seven-year-old Shanu, who grapples with self-discovery, while his father Sidhant navigates grief and societal pressures as a single parent trying to understand his child. The director shares, “It's an absolute dream to have Bun Tikki make its global debut at the 36th Palm Springs International Film Festival. This iconic festival has always been a beacon for independent filmmakers and bold storytelling, and I’m beyond excited that our film is part of such a phenomenal line up. Bun Tikki is my love letter to the world --- to every child, every parent, and everyone who believes in the transformative power of love, empathy, and kindness. I hope it sparks conversations that break barriers, bridge differences, and remind us of the kinder, happier world we’re all capable of creating. This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of Jio Studios and the visionary Manish Malhotra, who believed in me and my story from the start, giving it the sunshine and love. My heartfelt thanks to the entire team at Palm Springs International Film Festival for giving Bun Tikki a platform to reach global audiences. I’m so proud of what we’ve created, and I can’t wait to share it with the world. Here’s to always making cinema that transcends boundaries and inspires us to imagine a brighter, better, more inclusive tomorrow.” The movie’s selection further cements Malhotra’s desire to back unconventional stories. “It’s a truly special moment to witness Bun Tikki make its global premiere at the 36th Palm Springs International Film Festival, especially following the applauded premiere of Saali Mohabbat at IFFI 2024 with Jio Studios. As a producer, it’s an honour to contribute to a project that challenges conventions, tells an authentic story and connects with audiences on a universal scale. I am incredibly proud of Faraz for bringing this vision to life and eagerly look forward to how the world embraces this heartfelt film. My deepest gratitude goes to the festival for supporting this liberated cinema and to the world who will soon experience the magic of Bun Tikki,” says the producer, who teamed up with Jio Studios to bring the story to the screen. Jyoti Deshpande, President, Media and Entertainment, RIL, added, “Having Bun Tikki premiere at a prestigious platform as the Palm Springs International Film Festival is a proud moment for us at Jio Studios. We believe in the power of storytelling to foster empathy and understanding. We are committed to amplifying diverse voices and narratives that resonate with authenticity and passion. Supporting Bun Tikki is not just an endorsement of its artistic merit but a celebration of the courage it takes to share stories that challenge and inspire. Manish and Faraz have made this film wholeheartedly and I am sure it will conquer hearts globally.”

IFFI Goa 2024: R Madhavan was 'heartbroken' when 'RHTDM' initially flopped

Actor R Madhavan, who is at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa for the premiere of his film 'Hisaab Barabar', opened up about his iconic movie 'Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein', which was re-released in August this year to mark its 25th anniversary. Produced by Vashu Bhagnani's Pooja Entertainment, 'Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein' also starred Dia Mirza and Saif Ali Khan. The film marked the Bollywood debut of Madhavan and Dia. Speaking to ANI, Madhavan shared how "heartbroken" he felt when the movie flopped during its initial release but said he was happy it eventually became a classic. The actor also expressed that it feels wonderful that the film was re-released after 25 years and earned more than it did during its original run. "When it first released, it didn't do well; it was a flop. So I remember being heartbroken. I had gone to all the temples and made sure I had left no stone unturned to make the film the way it was supposed to, but it was heartbreaking. Little did I realize that fortune and fate had a big story for me. It (re)released after 25 years and made more money than it did originally. It's wonderful to be recognised for doing a film 25 years later," Madhavan said. 'Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein' was released in 2001. The romantic drama, directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, was a remake of his own Tamil film 'Minnale', released in the same year. A couple of years ago, rumours surfaced online that the makers of the film were planning to make a sequel. In 2020, Madhavan refuted the rumours of a sequel to RHTDM. Songs from the film, including Sach Keh Raha Hai, Dil Ko Tumse, and Zara Zara, are still loved by the audience today. The 'Shaitaan' actor also shared an interesting observation about his movies, revealing that whenever he performed "romance on the train," those films performed exceptionally well. "Whenever I have done romance on the train, the films have done really good. Alai Payuthey, which was my first film with Mani Ratnam, the original of Saathiya, and from there to Tanu Weds Manu--wherever we had trains, the film has done well for us," he said. Meanwhile, IFFI 2024, which began on November 20, is showcasing over 180 international films from 81 countries, including 16 world premieres, 3 international premieres, 43 Asian premieres, and 109 Indian premieres. Notably, the organisers have also included a tribute program to honour the 100th birth anniversaries of four Indian cinema legends: actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor, director Tapan Sinha, Telugu cinema star Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR), and singer Mohammed Rafi. The 55th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will run until November 28. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Urmila Matondkar on 25 years of 'Khoobsurat': 'Got to play someone vulnerable'

As the romantic comedy “Khoobsurat” turned 25 in Hindi cinema, the film’s lead actress Urmila Matondkar said that she loved playing an underconfident, unsure girl who, with the help of Sanjay Dutt’s character, slowly finds herself and blossoms into someone strong.  Released on November 26, 1999, the film, directed and written by Sanjay Chhel, the film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Paresh Rawal and Om Puri to name a few. Urmila said: ”’Khoobsurat’ will always be a special film for me because of its beautiful and relatable story. It’s not about an ugly girl becoming beautiful—it’s about a young woman discovering her inner beauty and confidence. I loved playing this underconfident, unsure girl who, with the help of Sanjay Dutt’s character, slowly finds herself and blossoms into someone strong and self-assured.” “For both Sanju and me, the roles were a departure from our usual images—Sanju, known for his macho action-hero persona, played a soft, romantic character with such charm.” The film is more special for her because she got to play someone vulnerable at the peak of her glamorous career. “And at the peak of my glamorous career, I got to play someone vulnerable and lost, which was both challenging and exciting. Even today, people come up to me and fondly recall the film, its songs, and even quirky details like the dog’s name, Babu Bhai.” Director of the film Sanjay Chhel added that ‘Khoobsurat’ holds a special place in his heart because Sanjay Dutt believed in me and trusted me with this project. “It was the first time he stepped out of his action-hero image to play a feel-good, romantic character, and he nailed it. His natural comic timing and charm made the film what it is. The song 'Aye Shivani' was a standout. Even today, I hear from so many Shivani’s who say they love the song.” “The idea for the track came from Sanjay himself. He said, 'Listen, bro, let's add this,' and he not only improvised but also lent his voice. I wrote the lyrics, and in just 15 minutes, he recorded the song at Jaliwar Studio—even though he wasn’t feeling his best that day. It became a massive hit and remains iconic.” He said that the film was a culmination of so many great elements—memorable performances, Paresh Rawal's hilarious dialogues, and an incredible soundtrack. Apart from the storyline, the film was also known for its songs such as “Aye Shivani”, “Bahut Khoobsurat Ho”, “Ghoonghat Mein Chaand", “Mera Ek Sapna Hai” and “Aana Zara Paas To Aa" among many others. Music duo Jatin and Lalit Pandit jointly saidthat it s a film that will always be special to them because of the music they created for it. “One of the standout tracks is 'Mera Ek Sapna Hai,' sung beautifully by Kumar Sanu and Kavita Krishnamurthy. The song’s melody is simple yet soulful, and Sanjay Chhel’s lyrics add a touch of richness and depth. Another memorable piece was the song performed by Sanjay Dutt.” They said that itwas unique because it blended a conversational, dialogue-like singing style with a rhythmic melody. “We were amazed by Sanjay’s precision and tempo, which we later learned came from his drumming experience. The title track, 'Khoobsurat Ho,' holds a special place in our hearts. Gulzar Saab’s lyrics were poetic yet grounded in everyday language, creating vivid visuals.” “The composition has a classic touch, with slight influences from R.D. Burman, but it remained distinctly ours. Creating the soundtrack for Khoobsurat was a joy, as it allowed us to experiment with emotions, melodies, and styles. Even 25 years later, these songs remain close to our hearts, and we’re proud that they continue to resonate with audiences." This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Shahana Goswami on 'Santosh' as UK's official entry for Oscars 2025

Actor Shahana Goswami, who stars in the UK's official entry to Oscars 2025 "Santosh", is excited about the film's chances at the upcoming awards ceremony and hopes all the attention it is receiving globally boosts independent cinema at large. "Santosh" marks the feature directorial debut of British-Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri. Goswami, known for her work in films such as "Rock On!!", "Firaaq", "Tu Hai Mera Sunday", and "Zwigato", said she has her fingers crossed for "Santosh" but one still has to wait and see. "We're not going to the Oscars just yet. There is still due process left. But I'm just excited and happy that the film got the kind of a platform that it did, selected for something like this that is getting that opportunity to be viewed by so many people and be in the news. Every good independent film that comes out has to become a stepping stone for the next one. "Essentially my excitement is for films like 'Santosh' being able to garner that value in the film industry and the film world globally, and then give hope for the fact that there are such films that could also have similar trajectories," the actor told PTI in an interview at Film Bazaar, which was held on the sidelines of the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here. She is also excited for Kiran Rao's "Laapataa Ladies", which is India's official entry in the best international film category at the upcoming Academy Awards. "Santosh", which includes Hindi dialogues, revolves around a newly widowed housewife (Goswami) as she inherits her late husband's job as a police constable and becomes embroiled in the investigation of a young girl's murder. It is a film that makes the viewer question themselves after they finish watching it, added Goswami. "I think that's what really resonates with people. That's what is hard-hitting. More than the plotline and story, the fact that it's a reflection on society that makes you just mirror yourself and the role you play in the reality that we are living in," she said. The actor was recently at IFFI to attend the gala premiere of her upcoming movie "Despatch". The film revolves around Joy Bag (Manoj Bajpayee), an investigative journalist working round the clock to uncover a big financial scam. Goswami -- who plays Joy's wife Shweta in the film -- said "Despatch" is a special project because she got an opportunity to work with Bajpayee and director Kanu Behl. "It was a really interesting journey. Kanu is a special director. To play a small part in this very amazing film was something that I really appreciated," she said. The film sees Joy and Shweta navigate their marriage which is already on the rocks. "They are going through a rough patch. It's a marriage that's falling apart and is broken. It's a journey of just the remains and the ends of a relationship. It was a very delicate and fine balance," she added. Up next for Goswami is "Four Years Later", an eight-part Australian-Indian romance drama series. Commissioned by Australian TV channel SBS and produced by Easy Tiger Productions, the English-language show follows a newly-married couple (Goswami and Akshay Ajit Singh) in a long-distance relationship. Australia is the country of focus at the 55th edition of IFFI, which will come to a close on November 28. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Sunny Deol returns to shoot 'Lahore 1947' after Aamir Khan suggests additions

When a perfectionist like Aamir Khan is involved, every scene is scrutinised and every detail fine-tuned. So, it’s not surprising that the actor-filmmaker has suggested a few revisions for his next production, Lahore 1947, led by Sunny Deol. We’ve heard that Deol, who recently wrapped up the shoot of Jaat, is heading back to the set of the Rajkumar Santoshi-helmed historical drama.     A source close to the production reveals, “Aamir was going through the first cut of Lahore 1947 and felt that a few sequences could benefit from more dramatic storytelling. He shared his insight with Santoshi, and they unanimously agreed to bring in additional shots that can elevate the story’s visual intensity.” Lahore 1947, also starring Preity Zinta, explores the emotional and physical journey of people caught in the turmoil of the Partition. Given the important story at its centre, Deol readily aligned his date diary with the patch shoot, which will commence in the second week of December. A crew member says, “A song is being incorporated to add to the grandeur of the narrative. For this, a set will be constructed at Mehboob Studios, beginning December 1. The team is looking at a 10 to 15-day shoot, which will include filming the song as well as some additional shots that will amplify the effect of crucial scenes. Sunny sir will wrap the patch shoot before going to Kashmir for the Border 2 shoot.”

Have you heard? Bhai's video on 26/11 resurfaces; 'Pushpa 2' song Kissik trolled

Old video brewing new trouble   An old video of Salman Khan’s controversial statements about the tragic 26/11 Mumbai attacks has resurfaced. In 2010, Salman had made headlines for his comments during an interview with a Pakistani TV channel. He appeared to absolve Pakistan, claiming its government had no role in the attacks. Salman was heard saying, “Too much hype has been created around the 26/11 attacks because elite people were targeted. Attacks have happened on trains and in small towns too, but no one talked about it so much. Everybody knows that the Pakistani government was not behind it and it was a terrorist attack. More than anything, our security had failed.” Yesterday, on the 16th anniversary of the horrific attacks, netizens trolled Salman for his remarks. At the time, Salman had apologised, claiming his words were twisted. The video’s sudden resurgence, amid his ongoing threats, makes us wonder about the timing.   Just came across this clip of Salman Khan talking about the 26/11 Attacks to a Pakistani news channel and apparently giving a clean chit to the Pakistan Govt! pic.twitter.com/gYSvGkevxU — Harpreet (@CestMoiz) October 22, 2024 All is well   Speculation has been rife about Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan heading for splitsville. While the couple has yet to address the rumours, Shweta Bachchan Nanda has quashed them with a kind gesture towards Shrima Rai, Aishwarya’s sister-in-law. Recently, Shrima shared an Instagram story dedicated to Shweta and Nikhil Nanda. In the photo, she thanked the couple for sending a surprise bouquet of flowers to her house. The photo went viral, with many expressing surprise at the unexpected interaction between the families. Sharing the photo, Shrima wrote, “Thank you, Nikhil Nanda and Shweta. This is stunning...” However, the reason behind the gesture remains unclear.   It’s a wrap!  Kajol penned a heartwarming note for the team after wrapping up the second season of The Trial. She shared a string of pictures on Instagram, including a cake-cutting ceremony with the entire cast and crew. Alongside the pictures, she wrote, “Aaaaaaaaand it’s a wrap. Another project done. Another family disbanded. Another marathon finished. So grateful to all these people for this awesome, amazing experience (sic)!” She tagged actors Jisshu Sengupta and Aseem Hatangdi in the post. Kajol will next appear in Maharagni: Queen of Queens, an actioner directed by Charan Tej Uppalapati.  Oo antava over Kissik   Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s Oo antava from Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rise became a sensation in 2021. Hoping to recreate its magic, the makers of the film’s second instalment released the song Kissik featuring Sreeleela. However, it seems the new track has failed to strike a chord with listeners. Released by T-Series on YouTube on Monday, the song, sung by Lothika and Sublashini with music by Devi Sri Prasad and lyrics by Raqueeb Alam, drew heavy criticism. In the comments section, listeners compared it to Dhinchak Pooja’s productions. One wrote, “It seems to be like a Dhinchak Pooja production song,” with another responding, “Dhinchak Pooja jyada best hai.” Another commented, “Yeh kya bana diya bhai [What have you made?].” One viewer remarked, “Mood kharaab kar diya [spoilt the mood].”

Sayani Gupta reveals actor used to ‘linger a kiss’ even after cut

Sayani Gupta has worked in several films, including 'Jolly LLB 2', 'Jab Harry Met Sejal', 'Article 15', and 'Baar Baar Dekho'. Today, the actress opened up about how thankful she is that intimacy coordinators are now in India. The actress shared an incident when a fellow actor tried to ‘linger a kiss’ even after the scene was cut. She shared that, at times, it's very subtle but still amounts to "indecent behaviour." She also revealed how she felt vulnerable when 70 men were staring at her as she lay down on a beach in a mini dress during the shoot for 'Four More Shots' in Goa.   'I am grateful that this [intimacy coordinator] is a profession' During an interview with Radio Nasha, Sayani said: “I could write a book about intimacy, and I am grateful that this [intimacy coordinator] is a profession that has come to India finally… I had worked with one in 'Margarita with a Straw' in 2013. Intimate scenes are the easiest to do because it is technical. Having said that, a lot of people also take advantage, and I have been in situations where an actor will linger the kiss even after a cut, and you are like ‘uhhh,’ and sometimes it’s very subtle, but that’s just indecent behaviour.”   'Sometimes your boundaries are compromised' She further shared an incident of shooting on a beach and talked about how actors' safety is often the last thing on anyone's mind. The actress stated, "I felt so vulnerable at that point because there were some 70 men standing in front of me. There was not one person on set who was next to me; there wasn't even much staff either… with 800 extras. I was like, ‘I just need one person to be with a shawl.’ There are many times when an actor's safety, or anyone's safety, is the last thing on anyone's mind. It doesn’t have to be an intimate scene, but sometimes your boundaries are compromised, which is a general mindset that needs to be expanded.”   Sayani Gupta's work front On the work front, Sayani, who has worked in films like 'Margarita with a Straw', 'Jagga Jasoos', 'Baar Baar Dekho', and series like 'Call Me Bae' and 'Four More Shots Please!', was recently seen in the romantic comedy 'Khwaabon Ka Jhamela', which also stars Prateik Babbar. The film was released on JioCinema.
