The awards season is here and Bollywood celebs are hopping from one event to another. On Wednesday night, the stars thronged the MMRDA Ground in Mumbai for one such glitzy do that had much more to it than the usual red carpet fashion and peppy performances.

Down but not out
During the first of his three acts for the evening, Varun Dhawan made an entry on the stage atop a tank. While getting down, he took a tumble and fell, injuring his foot.

To the audience, it looked like he had missed a step. But, he sprang up and danced to a track from his upcoming film, 'Badlapur'.

A source says, "He was limping and in pain. Not many realised he fell as he quickly got up and continued dancing. He rested for some time and completed all remaining acts which involved intense steps as well as jumping."

For old times' sake

Shahid Kapoor, who bagged the Best Actor award, was seen bonding with Armaan Jain — his ex-flame Kareena Kapoor's cousin — who made his debut last year.

An onlooker says, "Shahid and Armaan know each other well and have been friends. Over the years, they lost touch but when they met, they appeared too happy to catch up."

Not friends anymore?
Richa Chadha looked cheerful as she walked the red carpet, posed for shutterbugs and interacted with the media. However, when Neetu Chandra entered the venue around the same time, there seemed to be some tension in the area.

As the two have been friends earlier, we wonder why they looked through each other and did not bother to exchange pleasantries. Prompt me, please Karan Johar, who hosted the awards night, encountered technical glitches when his mic stopped functioning. This apparently delayed the show for a bit, but he more than made up for it with his natty sense of humour.

Winning words
In an industry where actresses barely become friends, Deepika Padukone made a heartwarming gesture.

After winning the Best Actress award in the popular category, she dedicated it to Kangna Ranaut for her performance in 'Queen', saying that she, in fact, deserved the honour. Kangna missed the awards ceremony but we're sure she was touched by Dippy's words.

Don't block my view
Veteran actress Tanuja and daughter Tanishaa arrived at the event at around 8.45 pm and took their seat in the front row.

However, when other celebs started pouring in, the organisers added extra chairs in front of the first row as the back area was packed with audience. According to a source, Tanuja threatened to walk out of the show if any chairs were placed in front of her. We contacted Tanishaa for a comment but she didn't reply to our text message.
