Talking about the ability to keep going on in the industry, Shah Rukh Khan reflected on the process of going through a release weekend. I always try to analyse why do I do what I do. Why do I wake up in the morning and start doing it all over again? The work that I do, making films, the result happens very suddenly. You think you have made the best of the film and the world will like it but you wake up on a Friday morning and realise it is the biggest flop of your career. Or sometimes you don't like a film and it becomes the biggest hit of your career.
"On Thursday evenings, because our films release on Fridays, at home in Mumbai, I rinse myself with a 2-hour bath and rinse myself of the work I have done. It's a ritual," he added.
He further said, "When you do a blockbuster film I realise you are happy and everyone is happy. Then Friday, Saturday, and Sunday happens but on Monday I have to get back to work to make better films. You make a flop film, then on Friday you are sad, Saturday you are crying and Sunday you are moping and not waking up from bed. But Monday you have to go to work and make better films. So Mondays are for trying to make better films always. So you persevere".
When the host asked Khan if he did not want the money, the actor wittily said, "I need it. The bathing oils are expensive," leaving everyone in splits.
Hollywood offers:
Shah Rukh Khan, who is the biggest superstar of India, also revealed that he never got work offers from Hollywood. "I’ve said this honestly, but nobody believes me. Nobody has offered me any crossover work of substance. I may have had conversations with people. I know lots of lovely people from the West, from the English film industry, from the American film industry, but nobody has offered me any work. I hear actors talk about wanting to cross over, but I still have to learn to deliver to the audience that likes me, instead of spreading myself too thin. So, I’ve never been offered a film in Hollywood or England."
Shah Rukh Khan mentioned the 'Slumdog Millionaire' offer and also revealed the reason why he turned down the film, which later won an Oscar. "Yes, Slumdog was there, and I spent a lot of time with Mr Boyle. He was very sweet. But I was doing Who Wants to be a Millionaire on television, but I just felt that in the story being told, the guy who was hosting was very mean," he said.
