During the 90s the ace director announced a film named ‘Shikhar’, starring Shah Rukh Khan. However, the film couldn’t see the light of day. In a recent interview, Ghai spilt the beans on the same.
In the 1990s, the Taal filmmaker unveiled Shikhar, an ambitious film starring Shah Rukh Khan and Jackie Shroff. The film's Mahurat was conducted in Haryana with tremendous fanfare; however, the film was unable to continue.
In a recent interview with ANI, the veteran filmmaker reminisced about Shikhar, revealing that it was set against a war backdrop. Ghai disclosed the reason Shikhar was shelved in an interview. He said, "We had done our mahurat and even recorded a few songs for it. However, we had to shelve the film due to budgetary issues incurred after Trimurti failure….so we thought of making a small film, and eventually Pardes happened."
Following the cancellation of Shikhar, Ghai rewarded fans with his 1997 release, Pardes, starring none other than the king of hearts, Shah Rukh Khan, and debutant Mahima Chaudhary. Khan played Arjun, a man who has relocated overseas but still believes in his country's traditional customs. The film was centred on the concept of values in both Indian and Western civilizations.
Pardes, starring SRK, eventually became a huge hit and became a classic. It wasn't simply the tale, but songs from Pardes like Yeh Dil Deewana and Meri Mehbooba helped make the film a Bollywood classic. On August 8, 1997, the film Pardes was released in cinemas.
On the work front, Shah Rukh will next be seen in the highly anticipated action thriller ‘Jawan’. The film, which is all set to hit the big screen on September 7, 2023, also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupati, and Sanya Malhotra in pivotal roles. 'Jawan' is directed by Atlee.
