Shiddat director on how Sunny-Radhika attempted a mix of contemporary and freestyle dance moves for the song, Humdum
Sunny Kaushal and Radhika Madan in the song
For Shiddat, director Kunal Deshmukh wanted to create a passionate dance number that conveyed the simmering emotions of his leads, portrayed by Radhika Madan and Sunny Kaushal. Thus was born Humdum. While choreographer Ruel Dausan Varindani envisioned it as an elaborate sequence with freestyle and contemporary dance moves, Deshmukh says that the tight schedule meant that the actors had to pick up the routine in a matter of few days. As the track of the Disney+ Hotstar film releases today, the director says, “We wanted our leads to express their raw and unhinged emotions for each other through the dance. Ruel was instrumental in crafting the sequence exactly how we envisaged it. While we faced many constraints, when the going got tough, the artistes got going.”

After days of intense prep, the song was shot at a Borivali studio over a week. The choreographer lauds Madan and Kaushal for pulling off the steps perfectly. “I used a fusion of contemporary and freestyle dance moves, mixing them with montages where they are seen having fun and flirting with one another. It was easier for Radhika as she has the experience of doing such dance moves. It was new for Sunny, but he pulled it off. I am proud that they managed the lifts and tricks perfectly after practicing a few times during the sessions.”
