Director Aarambh Singh may have hit the jackpot with the casting of his film Malang, which may pair Sanjay Dutt and Rani Mukerji for the first time on the big screen. While the search for the female lead in the Bhushan Kumar, Sandeep Singh and Omung Kumar production is currently underway, a source suggests that Mukerji is a strong contender for the romantic-thriller.
"Sanjay, Aarambh and the producers of Malang are keen to work with Rani since they've never been paired on the big screen. Dutt plays an investigating officer who falls in love with a lady cop. Rani will need to look extremely fit for the part. Sanju has a lot of respect for her and has been wanting to work with her for long. But, she has not signed a film outside of husband Aditya Chopra's banner in the last few years," the source says of the film that will go on floors in December, and will be shot extensively across Varanasi and Shimla.
When contacted, Singh says, "I want to make every film with Rani because I don't think there is anyone else with her kind of talent. Sanju and she will look great on screen and will make for a couple that people will remember for years. We are keeping our fingers crossed and hope that she says yes."
Mukerji's spokesperson confirmed that the actor had been approached for the part, stating, "Omung has reached out to YRF and requested for a meeting (with Rani)."
