It’s raining remakes in Hindi cinema. Only a day after mid-day reported that Tamil film Aruvi (2017) will be adapted by director Eshwar Nivas, another Tamil offering Comali (2019) is Bollywood-bound. The comedy had caught the attention of producer Boney Kapoor on its release. Now, it is heard that the filmmaker, along with producer Luv Ranjan, is set to adapt it with actor-son Arjun Kapoor playing the lead.

Starring Jayam Ravi and Kajal Aggarwal, the original revolves around a man who meets with an accident and goes into a coma for 16 years. When he recovers, he realises that everything around him has changed significantly and struggles to adjust to the technology-driven world. A trade source reveals, “Boney had bought the film’s rights in 2019 with the intention of revisiting the subject in Hindi and other languages. While Pradeep Ranganathan had directed the Tamil offering, the Hindi remake will probably be helmed by another director. At the moment, Luv and his creative team are re-working the script to give it a pan-India appeal.”

In January, Boney joined the cast of Ranjan’s untitled next starring Ranbir Kapoor. However, the source reveals that the two filmmakers had joined forces for the Comali remake long before that. “Talks had been on for quite a while, but the project was sealed only recently. If all goes well, the film will go on floors by September-October.” The movie will mark Arjun’s reunion with his producer father after Tevar (2015). Incidentally, the Amit Ravindernath Sharma-directed outing was a remake of the Telugu film, Okkadu (2003).
