The much-awaited trailer of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming period drama 'Padmavati' starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor is out and it is sure to leave you awestruck! Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor shine with their understated performance as Rani Padmini and Maharawal Ratan Singh respectively, but Ranveer Singh's show as the deadly and dangerous Sultan Alauddin Khilji steals the show in the 3-minute long trailer.

Recently, Ranveer Singh's look as Alauddin Khilji was released on social media. Ghastly, kohl-eyed, and ferocious, with a uniquely-styled hair, Ranveer Singh's 'Padmavati' look is what nightmares are made of, and reeks of the adjectives already been given to him - the villain of the piece, the evil, and the lustful megalomaniac. The little scar underneath his eye gives a serious run for money to the original scarface. Making him look even deadlier is the malevolent colour of his eyes, which gives him an even more grungy look.

Hours before Ranveer Singh's look was to be unveiled, the poster was shared across social media a little after midnight on Monday. Given that Singh's avatar as the anti-hero is, inarguably, dramatic, marking his return in a Bhansali production after his critically acclaimed performance in Bajirao Mastani (2015), it was certain to garner more attention than Padukone and Kapoor's look. Ranveer Singh had announced that fans could look forward to the unveiling on October 3 morning, but, the actor was forced to share the poster at 2 am, right after the leak.

A source told mid-day, "All hell broke loose after the image was leaked... The production house contacted Twitter to pull down the image from as many accounts as possible. Following an internal investigation, the production house will take a call on how future developments must be handled."

Prior to Ranveer Singh's look, the makers had first revealed Deepika Padukone's look as Rani Padmini following which they unveiled Shahid Kapoor's look as Maharawal Ratan Singh.

Deepika Padukone as the beautiful, elegant and unibrowed Queen Padmini aka Padmavati was enough to make the Twitterati fall in love with the gorgeousness of the actress, while Shahid Kapoor as Padmavati's husband, the grim, battle-ravaged Maharawal Ratan Singh was a delight and a revelation.

'Padmavati' is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The movie went through its share of controversies with a fringe Rajput group, Rajasthan's Shri Rajput Karni Sena, vandalising the sets of the movie a couple of times, and even manhandling the director once.

They are said to have issues with how Bhansali is handling the equation between Padmavati and Khilji. It was also reported that playing Khilji had taken a toll on Ranveer's mind and consequentially, he actually had his friends worried.

'Padmavati' is all set to hit the screens on December 1.
