A look at promising musical projects of 2022

Music to the ears!

AR Rahman, Ilaiyaraaja, Pritam Chakraborty and Shah Rukh Khan

A lot from AR Rahman

Le Musk, which kicked off in 2015 and was touted to be Rahman’s directorial debut, had been delayed due to the pandemic. However, 2022 may finally be the year of the film’s release. The virtual reality film was first showcased with multi-sensory chairs for viewers to access the scents that form the crux of the story. Apart from that, Rahman also joins forces with Mani Ratnam again for Ponniyin Selvan.  He has also been roped in for  Heropanti 2, and director Atlee's next with Shah Rukh Khan.

Ilaiyaraaja’s film, music school

The maestro presents his bilingual (Hindi and Telugu) musical with 12 original songs. They will be choreographed by Broadway’s Adam Murray (Rocketman, Cruella). The musical explores the pressure of the education system on children, who are expected to pursue degrees in medicine or engineering. This comic is set in Hyderabad and Goa. It features Sharman Joshi. Shaan is also part of Papa Rao Biyyala’s directorial venture.

Pritam Chakraborty’s Bhramastra

Brahmastra marks yet another collaboration between Pritam and Ranbir Kapoor. Even though the duo’s Jagga Jasoos failed to make a mark, the film’s songs were much-appreciated. With Brahmastra being a coveted project for both Singh and director Ayan Mukerji, a lot is expected from this musical score.

The DDLJ musical

In September this year, Come Fall in Love — The DDLJ Musical is expected to premiere in San Diego. Aditya Chopra has apparently been working on it for three years. The musical, based on the film starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, will also feature lyrics by Laurence Oliver Award-winner Nell Benjamin.
