With vacation fever in full swing, children are opting for hair tattoos of their favourite superheroes like Superman or Batman, characters and even numbers

Arm and glitter tattoos are passe. This year’s favourite vacation trend for children appears to be hair tattoos.
These hair tattoos aren’t actually applied to the hair, but feature designs that are cut or buzzed out on the head. “Children are getting experimental with their hairstyles. Earlier they wanted simple styles; now, they come in with funky designs or ask for our suggestions,” says Marya Lanewala, co-founder of Starfish Kids Salon. In the past few weeks, her team has created designs featuring dog paws for a child who wanted to honour his pet, minions, and football and basketballs for the sporty kids. The most popular, says Lanewala, are superhero logos namely Avengers, Batman and Superman.
Superman
“Older kids prefer sports-related or tribal designs like zig-zag lines. The younger ones, however, love their superheroes,” she says. And while their customers are generally boys, they have made a shooting star for a three-year-old girl.
Batman
Superman is also oft-requested at Dolled and Dapper, a six-month old salon and spa for kids. “They ask for the Superman cut,” says Rashi Morbia Kumar, co-founder of the salon. “They like fun stuff on their hair; from their favourite numbers to their initials,” she adds.
T-Rex
The best part about this style is that it usually grows out in about 20 days, well in time for school. The length is first snipped off, the style cut out using a clipper or scissors and it is then given shape,” shares Lanewala. And, it doesn’t require any maintenance. “Think of it as just a funky haircut,” says Kumar.
