And today, I am thrilled to see it taking shape beautifully as our teams work tirelessly with only one purpose: to present the most authentic, sacred, and visually stunning adaptation of our history, our truth, and our culture—our Ramayana—for people across the world,” read the caption. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi.  Remembering a star In a bid to pay tribute to Sanjeev Kumar on his 39th death anniversary yesterday, actor Jackie Shroff spoke about some of his favourite scenes performed by the actor, including one from Salim-Javed’s 1975 blockbuster, Sholay, and another from Pati Patni Aur Woh, which hit the screens in 1978. In a video shared online, Shroff posted photographs of the late star and wrote: “Remembering Sanjeev Kumar (9 July 1938 — 6 Nov 1985.)” In 1985, Kumar suffered a heart attack aged 47, which resulted in his death. More than 10 movies starring him were released after his death, with the last one being Professor Ki Padosan, in 1993. Sharing the love Extending support to Abhishek Bachchan, Vicky Kaushal recently shared that he was looking forward to watching his next, I Want to Talk. The actor took to Instagram to praise Shoojit Sircar’s directorial venture after its trailer was released. “Classic, Shoojit da—raw, beautiful, and blissful! The film, also starring Johnny Lever, Jayant Kriplani, Pearle Maaney, and Kristin Goddard, delves into the dynamics of modern relationships, personal struggles, and human experiences. It tackles sensitive themes, promising to balance humour with the emotional depth of life’s challenges.  Case registered against Mithun A case was registered against actor-turned-BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty by the Bidhannagar Police yesterday for allegedly making a provocative speech during a party event in North 24 Parganas district last month. The complaint against Chakraborty stems from a speech he delivered at a BJP event on October 27. Chakraborty, who was honoured with India’s highest film accolade, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, earlier this year, had declared on October 27 that the “masnad” (throne) of West Bengal would belong to the BJP after the 2026 Assembly elections, vowing to do whatever it takes to achieve this goal. He cautioned anyone against attempting to intimidate saffron party voters into abstaining from voting in the next Assembly elections. Select BJP ministers called the FIR a case of “vendetta politics.”  Putting his money in the right hands In a world where content is truly emerging to be king, actor Prabhas is putting his might behind writers who can ace their game. On the work front, he has a string of projects in the pipeline, including The Raja Saab, Salaar: Part 2, Shouryanga Parvam, and Kalki 2. Sunny Leone with husband Daniel Weber

'His biggest issue is his mouth': Sunny Leone-Daniel Weber on Donald Trump's win

I’m so surprised,” was Sunny Leone’s opening remark, as we got on a call with her an hour after Donald Trump was elected as the 47th President of the United States of America. Trump, who served as the US President from 2017 to 2021, had something of a landslide victory this time, way ahead of Democratic Party’s presidential candidate Kamala Harris.  What will Trump’s second term be like? When we posed the question to Leone, arguably India’s most famous US citizen, she chose to be optimistic. “I think he’ll be a little less aggressive in how he speaks. He will still be funny and witty, but I think he cares about America doing well in every aspect,” she said. Donald Trump Daniel Weber, Leone’s entrepreneur-husband, stated that Trump’s master-stroke was that he promised policies that were people- and America-centric. “He is selling lower taxes, especially corporate taxes. Immigration was his number one [priority]; he wants [tighter] immigration policy. Lowering crime is a big [agenda], [as is] ending foreign wars. In the last two years, we have seen big conflicts between Ukraine and Russia, and Israel with Hezbollah and Hamas. During his first term, there were no wars. That’s a big thing he was running on—that he will hopefully put an end to the wars,” said Weber. Chiming in, Leone recounted that during his last term, Trump brought US troops stationed in Afghanistan back home. “I remember how happy people were, that they were finally not having to be on the frontlines or in dangerous areas. The [soldiers’] families were extremely happy. Even though American soldiers aren’t on the battlefields, we have the Navy and US soldiers in supporting roles in so many places all over the world. They should be brought home, and the conflicts should be ended with some resolution. That was a big agenda of Trump.” But Trump 2.0 comes with some older problems. Leone pointed out, “I think his biggest issue is his mouth. He is his own worst enemy. Sometimes, you just don’t know what he is going to say. I think if he keeps himself calm, chooses his words wisely and [follows] decorum, he will be able to leave with a different legacy after four years.” She is also hopeful that the President-elect will focus on women’s healthcare during his term. With his victory, the future of abortion rights in the US faces uncertainty. She said, “He will have to deal with a lot of backlash amongst women and young people when it comes to his policies on women’s healthcare, pregnancy and abortion. He will have to reach out [to his detractors] in some manner so that everyone or the majority is happy with his policies. When he left [after his last term], there was so much hatred towards him. But he has obviously gained a lot of support over the last four years. I think if he is open-minded to certain policies, he will gain so much more love.” Many feel that this has been one of the most polarising US elections in a long time. Polarising or not, Leone lauded Harris for holding her ground and giving Trump a tough fight. “She had a tough road ahead of her. She put in the work, trying her very best. She was fighting a gigantic wall that has been put on for years. I think she fought well, but her campaign lacked some sort of a zing. Trump has been campaigning for eight years, if you really think about it, and she, for 110 days. How can you compete with that? That time frame not enough to create a strong voter base,” the actor emphasised. A prominent conversation on X, after the elections, was that the average American doesn’t want a female president. Does Weber think it’s true? “It hasn’t happened in America, but it has happened in many other places. It happened in Italy,” said Weber, adding, “I don’t even vote for a party, let alone gender. I have voted Democrat before, and I have voted Republican. For me, it’s about the candidate.” Leone echoed his sentiments, saying, “America is definitely ready for a female president. It’s about the right person, the right time; plus, the people that are backing her up have to make it about America, not about themselves. The Republicans have two or three women that will be phenomenal candidates. You’ll see them in the years to come.” What is the most pressing issue for an average American today that the new President needs to address? According to Weber, it boils down to one need. “Does it cost me more to put food on my table and pay my bills? That is every citizen’s pressing issue. Borders, wars, trade or anything [are secondary]; the first thing is, at the end of the day, is it too expensive for me to feed my family, send my kids to school, and make my day-to-day living?” Leone added, “Over the last four years, there were so much [funds] given to illegal immigrants. That was taxpayers’ money. I think that hurt a lot of people. So, I believe every country should have great immigration policies, where anybody and everybody can apply to go to that country. We both come from immigrant families. If it wasn’t for those policies, I wouldn’t be an American citizen. But everything should be done at fair pay. I pay taxes like every other American does. Personally, I don’t think don’t think it’s fair that [illegal immigration] is taking away from other US citizens; the government is responsible for its citizens. There should be aid given to anybody who needs it, but there must be a system.”

Sanya Malhotra leads the remake of The Great Indian Kitchen

'Mrs' producer Harman Baweja: 'We spent seven-eight months writing it'

It may be two months away, but Harman Baweja is already counting the days to the January release of Mrs. Creating the Sanya Malhotra-starrer was exactly how he hopes each of his productions to be—collaborative and thought-provoking. “Everyone involved, whether it’s our director Arati Kadav or writer Anu Singh Choudhary or Sanya, has spent time discussing every dialogue and moment,” recounts Baweja.  Harman Baweja An adaptation of the Malayalam film, The Great Indian Kitchen (2021), Mrs tells the story of a dancer whose life becomes restricted to the kitchen after her marriage. Considering the Jeo Baby-directed original was widely praised, Baweja and the team wanted to ensure that Mrs stands on its own. It’s a responsibility they took to the writing table. “We spent seven-eight months writing it because that is the spine of every film. Sometimes, [while writing], you get carried away and feel this is a great dramatic point, but then you realise that it takes away from the film’s essence. You question, ‘Are we making it too easy for her to do what she does towards the end?’ Finding the right balance in the film was a challenge, but one that we thoroughly enjoyed.” Before Mrs hits the screens, Baweja’s production Khwabon Ka Jhamela will reach the audience. The producer says Prateik Babbar and Sayani Gupta’s unusual casting was key to the rom-com. “The idea was to tap into a side of Prateik that hasn’t been explored yet; [we wanted to show him] as a guy, who is disciplined and overly regimented. You need that streak of craziness, which he has. Sayani is a ball of energy. We wanted an unlikely pair because the story is about an unlikely meeting of two people.”

Rajkummar Rao with wife Patralekhaa

'Stree 2' actor Rajkummar Rao and wife Patralekhaa to turn producers

In a 14-year career, Rajkummar Rao has established himself as one of the finest actors of the current crop. Now, he is keen to extend his love for cinema beyond acting. We’ve heard the actor, along with actor-wife Patralekhaa, is turning producer with a yet-untitled film that will be helmed by Vivek Daschaudhary, who served as an assistant director on Guns & Gulaabs (2023). If things go as planned, the Rao-led project will go on floors in January 2025. Vivek Daschaudhary While he was toying with the idea of production for some time, the phenomenal success of Stree 2 cemented his decision. An insider shared, “Raj has been passionate about exploring different dimensions of filmmaking. It was Patralekhaa’s idea that they graduate to production, and after Stree 2’s smashing success, he felt it was the perfect time to dive in.” It’s interesting that for their maiden production, Rao and Patralekhaa are backing the vision of Daschaudhary, who will foray into feature films with the project. It turns out the director’s fresh cinematic approach resonated with the couple, who want to bet on novel stories and new voices. Another source working on the film told us, “It’s an unconventional drama. Raj and Vivek both have a deep respect for meaningful stories and want to bring such narratives to the fore. While Raj and Patralekhaa have multiple productions in the works right now, this will be the first to roll in January. It’s a direct-to-web film for Netflix.”

Supreme Yaskin or Asur Kali? Decoding Kamal Haasan's character in Kalki 2898 AD

'Kalki 2898 AD,' starring Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Prabhas, and Kamal Haasan in the lead roles, has been making headlines since its announcement. The Nag Ashwin directorial has managed to surpass Rs 200 crore at the box office in just three days in India. With multiple cameos and several Mahabharat references, fans are curious to know more. While Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone's characters and their references to the epic battle are quite clear, the audience is now excited to know more about who exactly is the deadly villain, Supreme Yaskin (played by Kamal Haasan). We believe we have an answer to your curiosities. Let's first take a look at what Nag Ashwin has shown in his film: In the film, it is shown that Supreme Yaskin is working on Project K. Although not much has been revealed about the project, it is clear that he intends to create a life-extending serum through artificially inseminated human fetuses. Yaskin is currently looking for a woman who can carry the fetus for the required time in the womb. Yaskin is connected to several cords that keep him alive, and his look reminds us of a human fetus that has yet to become a fully grown human being. Yaskin's goal to become a superpower and his wish to kill Sumati's (Deepika) unborn child point toward his purpose to cause destruction. It aims at him trying to rule over all like a god. This premise reminds us of Kali, the mythological demon who is supposed to fight Kalki. The probable connection of Yaskin to mythology: It is said that Kalki is the 10th avatar of Lord Vishnu, who is supposed to appear at the end of Kali Yuga to restore dharma. And it will be the asura Kali who will fight against Kalki. As per mythology, Kali governs a corrupt and violent phase of the Hindu cycle, where humanity forsakes the gods and morality gives way to rampant hostility and depravity. Now, with Yaskin being the one who wishes to kill the unborn Kalki and inject his serum into him, and mythology claiming Kali will fight against the 10th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, possibilities are that Nag Ashwin has taken some inspiration from the legend of Kalki to create his villain Yaskin. Even at the end of the film, Yaskin is seen reciting a Sanskrit shlok 'Jagannatha ratha chakraalu vastunnaai vastunnaai,' which translates to 'The wheels of Jagannatha's chariot are coming, they are coming.' This indicates that with one drop of serum from Sumati's fetus, the demon has realized that the Vishnu avatar is coming.
