Vir Das has stepped in to defend Deepika Padukone amid backlash for her seeing 'other people' comment

The first episode of Koffee with Karan season 8 has certainly brought forth a well of mixed reactions. The couple appeared on Karan Johar’s talk show for the first time, on the show, they discussed at length about all things, wedding, mental health. While discussing their courtship days, Deepika Padukone mentioned that she was seeing ‘‘other people’ while still dating Ranveer Singh. Now, Vir Das weighed in on the subject and gave his opinion on the hullabaloo this comment has caused on the internet.

Vir Das took to ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account to stand by Deepika Padukone. He said, “Moment of silence for all the men who are upset that a Bollywood star way out of their league was casually dating for a while, and wasn’t as committed as their imaginary girlfriend is to them."

In the episode, Deepika had mentioned, “I wanted to be single for a while because I had come from difficult relationships. I was going through a phase where I said 'I just don't want to be attached, don't want to be committed'. And I had fun! And then he comes along, so I didn't commit, until he proposed to me. There was no 'commitment as such. Even if we were technically allowed to see other people, we would just keep coming back to each other (sic.)”
As the episode went on, there was a moment that fans caught on to. Deepika asked Ranveer Singh who her ‘other suitors’ were. To which, Ranveer Singh, visibly miffed said, “Abhi toh tumne bola I was seeing other people but I would go back to him. Tumko ab yaad nahi aa raha hai (Just a few minutes ago you said you were seeing other people and now you can't remember)?” “I can’t remember the people,” Deepika added. “I remember very clearly (sic.)” Ranveer Singh responded.
