Vikramaditya Motwane

Vikramaditya Motwane says CTRL should remain a cautionary tale: 'I don't buy...'

Vikramaditya Motwane's film CTRL, starring Ananya Panday, has just dropped on Netflix and is getting a lot of attention. Recently, the director talked about the possibility of sequels and revealed that his initial draft had a different ending. He explained that Nella’s revenge-focused ending didn’t quite fit with the story’s flow, especially with the limits of the screenlife format, so he decided to make some changes. Vikramaditya Motwane rules out Ananya Panday's CTRL sequel According to Hindustan Times, when asked if there could be a sequel where Nella goes after revenge, possibly without using the screenlife format, Vikramaditya Motwane seemed unsure. He said, "Maybe. I don't know. I don't buy into a sequel. I think in Nella's case, she's doomed. She's gone down that rabbit hole again." He feels CTRL should stay as a cautionary story instead of turning into a revenge-focused plot. Vikramaditya originally thought about a different ending for the film, where Nella’s story takes a revengeful direction. In the first draft, she aimed to get back at those who wronged her. However, the scale of the enemy she faced meant he had to choose between sticking with the screenlife format or moving to a more traditional ending. He mentioned that adding such a dramatic change wouldn't flow well with the story's structure, especially given the constraints of the format. He said, “That's the moment we realised, why would anyone in that right mind stream this or shoot this, what would be the screenlife element? So very quickly, that went out of the window.” About Ananya Panday's CTRL sequel Pegged as a cutting-edge thriller on our rising dependency on technology, CTRL shows Ananya as Nella Awasthi and Vihaan Samat as Joe Mascarenhas, a romantic couple who create content together and are loved by their Internet audience. However, their perfect online life takes a dark turn when they break up and Ananya gives the steering wheel of her life to a social media application named "CTRL". Opening up about her character, Ananya in a press note shared by Netflix, said, "My character Nella, is like any of us. She's caught up in a world dominated by technology and social media. CTRL explores how we navigate the fine line between our online presence and who we are in real life. Working with Vikram sir and Nikhil sir has been an incredible journey, and I can't wait for you to watch it on Netflix and uncover the connection between Nella and Allen." (With inputs from ANI)

When Ajay Devgn claimed he likes to avoid paparazzi on ‘Koffee With Karan’

Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn's statement of shying away from the shutterbugs can be seen as a mix bag of fact and fiction. While he has often chosen privacy, his public figure status inevitably grabs media attention.  On Friday afternoon, Ajay, who had once spoken about the paparazzi culture, was photographed outside Mumbai’s Kalina airport. The 55-year-old actor was seen stepping out of his luxury SUV car dressed in a white T-shirt paired with black pants. He completed his look with sunglasses. Ajay, who is married to Bollywood star Kajol, stopped for the shutterbugs and waved at them before making his way to the airport. Details about where the actor is jetting off to was not shared. It was in 2023, Ajay addressed the paparazzi culture in “Koffee With Karan”, where the show's host and filmmaker Karan Johar, asked the star that his “daughter is in the zone of social paparazzi, does that drive you mad that the paparazzi is clicking her wherever she goes". To which, the actor replied: "Of course, she doesn't like it. We don't like it. But you can't change it, so you live with it. It is what it is, it doesn't matter." When asked by Karan why he is never papped at airport, Ajay replied "Because I don't call them". However there have been multiple instances when Ajay Devgan have been papped at airport. Earlier last week, Ajay and Kajol wished their nephew Danish Devgn and said that they were proud of everything he is becoming. Ajay wrote on his Instagram: "You've always had the fire in you... and it's been amazing watching you turn that spark into something unstoppable... Proud of everything you're becoming... Happy Birthday!" Kajol also took to her Instagram Stories, and shared a candid click with Danish. She wrote: "Happy happy birthday to this good man... can't call him a boy anymore... may your compassion always be ur superpower!" Danish is currently associated with Ajay-starrer upcoming movie 'Son of Sardaar 2'. The movie is a sequel to the 2012 action comedy 'Son of Sardaar', directed by Ashwni Dhir. The film starred Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Juhi Chawla. Talking about Ajay’s films, he will also be seen in “Singham Again”, “Raid 2” and “De De Pyaar De 2” in his kitty. "I lean on my real-life friends...": Ananya Panday on dealing with breakups

Ananya Panday has left movie buffs mesmerised with her performance in her latest release, 'CTRL', a gripping cyberthriller directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. In the film, Ananya plays Nella Awasthi, an influencer who, after a painful breakup, turns to Artificial Intelligence (AI) to erase her ex-boyfriend Joe from her life. While the story takes a thrilling turn with AI going out of control, Ananya shared how she handles breakups in real life. Speaking to ANI, Ananya revealed that, unlike her character Nella, she leans on her "real friends" when going through tough times, especially breakups. "I lean on my real-life friends only. As Nella proved in the film, it's not the best thing to rely on AI and all these digital things. I prefer to stick to physical friendships," she shared. The 'CTRL' actress also spoke about handling social media trolling, saying she's become more "thick-skinned" over time. "It affects me as much as it would affect any other person, but I think it also depends on the day. Sometimes I'm able to deal with stuff better, and some days it affects me a lot more. But in general, I'm a lot more thick-skinned than I was, and I don't let unnecessary, irrelevant voices reach me," she said. The movie marks her second OTT release this year, following her debut in the series 'Call Me Bae' in September. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, the film also stars Vihaan Samat, best known for his role in 'Mismatched'. The cyberthriller was released on October 4 on Netflix and is now available for streaming. Anupam Kher. Pic/Ashish Raje

"Blessings of parents are greater than anything": Anupam Kher

Veteran actor Anupam Kher believes that one should never take their parents for granted, as wherever we stand, it is because of their blessings and love. Kher explained that while our parents never forget us, we sometimes neglect them due to our hectic schedules. "My mother calls me every morning to know about my well-being. Our elders are like this and they always think about us. Blessings of parents are greater than anything." In a conversation with ANI, he recalled an incident and said, "Recently, I heard a very heart-wrenching story from someone. That a gentleman had put his mother in an old people's home. She got sick and became very serious. Then he brought her home and she told him that there was no fan in the old-age home. 'He said 'maa tum to ja rahi ho'(you are going to die) why are you thinking all this', to this, she responded, 'Son I managed anyhow but I am just thinking about your good'. This story shook me completely. Our elders are important and we should always make sure to take proper care of them." The actor said that films are not just meant to entertain people but at the same place, they should also convey a message. While talking about his film 'The Signature', which was released today. Kher plays an elderly husband Arvind whose wife Ambika (Neena Kulkarni) is put on life support shortly after she falls sick. He said, " After Covid, there has been no human being who hasn't experienced the fear of losing someone beloved...This story is of a middle-class family, It is a story of a person, whose character I am playing, Arvind. who, after earning a lifetime's worth of money and finally retiring, has bought a house far from the city, and with his wife, his entire dream is to go to Europe... These are the dreams of the middle class. And there, at the airport, his wife gets a brain haemorrhage and lands in the hospital. Now, in the hospital, she is in a coma and she is under a ventilator. The doctor says that you have to sign on the Do Not Resuscitate (DNR)......, is it allowed to remove it or not? So, he asks them what are the chances of it. They reply we can never say that there is no chance of it in any condition. So, then he says, how can I sign? So, this is the struggle of that person..." The actor said that the film raises very relevant questions like "After a certain age, does a person's worth end? Does a person's life become meaningless at the age of 60? Does he not have the right to live? Does the son think about his mother, that if he spends 7.5 to 8 lakh rupees to keep her alive, then how will he manage? Everyone's problem is genuine. It is not that the children do not love their parents. So this is the story." On talking about the title of the film he added, " My character's wife is in the hospital, she is on the ventilator. And the doctor wants him to sign on that paper... So this signature becomes very important.." Directed by the acclaimed director Gajendra Ahire, 'The Signature' explores the emotional trials of a devoted husband, essayed by Anupam Kher as he grapples with a life-altering crisis. Produced by KC Bokadia and Anupam Kher Studio, the film features an impressive cast of Mahima Chaudhry, Neena Kulkarni, Annu Kapoor, and Ranvir Shorey. Neena Gupta, Amitabh Bachchan, Imran Khan

The hits and misses of the lucrative second innings of Bollywood

An Instagram post simply asking for work led to the beginning of Neena Gupta's glorious second innings in the movie business. That post led to her being cast as Ayushmann Khurana's mother in the film 'Badhaai Ho'. In the film, Neena's character gets pregnant at an age when society expects her to embrace grandmotherhood. The film, which was recognised at the National Awards as well marks the beginning of Neena's second life in the movies.  Following her stellar performance, she went on to feature in films like 'Goodbye', 'Masaba Masaba 2', Panchayat,'Unchai', 'Shubh Mangala Zyada Savdhaan', 'Kaagaz 2', and others.  Neena Gupta was, however, not the first person to go out there and ask for work. Much before social media became a thing, legendary star Amitabh Bachchan too asked for work and requested filmmakers to cast him when he went through lean a phase and was also struggling financially. A rather difficult thing to believe, right?  Here's taking a look at some actors who had a successful second innings in Bollywood:  Amitabh Bachchan The legendary megastar faced a major career slump in the late 1990s after his production company, ABCL, went into heavy debt. The star who featured in some of the biggest hits of the 70s and 80s has openly admitted that he had to approach filmmakers for work during that difficult period. He later made a strong comeback with the television show Kaun Banega Crorepati and films like Mohabbatein. Sushmita Sen The former Miss Universe made a place in people's hearts with her performance in films like Sirf Tum, Kyuki Mai Jhuth Nahi Bolta, Main Hoon Na, Biwi No.1 and many more. However, she later took a break from work. When she decided to return, she admitted that finding good work wasn’t easy. However, her performance in the web series Aarya (2020) marked a successful comeback after years of limited roles. Bobby Deol While today Bobby Deol has been enjoying a great phase in his acting career where he has embraced new roles, there was a phase when no one was offering him work. After enjoying significant success in the 1990s and early 2000s, Bobby's career hit a rough patch, with few film offers coming his way. He experienced a lull in his career, which led to a phase of personal and professional struggles. He revealed that he reached out to filmmakers, including Salman Khan, asking for opportunities to revive his career. This led to him being cast in Race 3 (2018), which marked the beginning of his second phase in Bollywood. Following this, Bobby received roles in films like Housefull 4 and ventured into the digital space with the Netflix series Class of '83 (2020) and the MX Player series Aashram (2020), which became highly successful. Sushmita Sen Former Miss Universe and actress Sushmita Sen took a hiatus from the film industry. When she decided to return she too went out seeking for work. She was offered the web series 'Aarya' where she played a determined and strong woman who takes over a cartel. Her dominant yet composed screen presence. The misses of the second innings Shilpa Shirodkar After enjoying a successful career in the 90s, Shilpa Shirodkar took a long break from acting. When she wanted to return to Bollywood, she found it difficult to find roles. She publicly acknowledged that she had to reach out to producers to seek work. However, it did not much work in her favour. Now, Shirodkar is all set to give herself another chance with Bigg Boss 18. She will be participating on the show as a contestant.  Amrita Rao The actress made a mark with her films like 'Ishq Vishk' (2003) and 'Vivah' (2006), but after a few years, her career slowed down. While she tried to make a comeback with Jolly LLB and Thackeray, her attempts did not bear fruit.  Esha Deol The daughter of Bollywood legends Dharmendra and Hema Malini, had a decent run in the early 2000s with films like Dhoom (2004). After a hiatus, she attempted a comeback with films and short films but wasn’t able to recreate the success of her earlier career.  Imran Khan The actor who made a stellar debut with 'Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na' was soon called the chocolate boy of the film industry. However, after Katti Batti in 2015, he disappeared from the scene. A year ago the actor expressed interest in making a comeback after several people on social media requested him to return. While the actor has spoken about his interest in returning to the movie scene, it is yet to translate into a project. The actor is currently active on social media and also attends interviews and other panel discussions where he often speaks about his journey in the film industry and also about mental health. The latest reports suggest that the actor plans on making a comeback with a project backed by his uncle Aamir Khan's film.

The Prime Video series, Citadel, is their most ambitious project, and is led by Indian star Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Richard Madden of Game of Thrones fame. “We respond strongly to film lovers, and India has such a massive passion for film. It’s a dialogue with India over storytelling, films, and shows. It stars Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu and releases in India on November 7.
