17 November,2024 08:22 AM IST | Mumbai | IANSVeteran actor and Shiv Sena leader Govinda cut short his campaign for the MahaYuti in Jalgaon on Saturday owing to health concerns, prompting an emergency helicopter transfer to a hospital in Mumbai for immediate treatment. Initially, Govinda reported mild physical discomfort, but his condition rapidly worsened, and doctors advised an urgent transfer to a major hospital in Mumbai. His family and friends accompanied him during the transfer, and he received initial treatment upon arrival at the hospital. The actor hasn't yet released a statement about his health. Govinda was campaigning for MahaYuti candidates in Jalgaon's Muktainagar, Bodwad, Pachora, and Chopda. He returned to Mumbai after halting the event midway in Pachora. He had been actively participating in a roadshow where he urged citizens to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi by voting for the ruling alliance of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). As per media reports, the actor experienced chest pain and discomfort in his leg and was rushed back to Mumbai by helicopter. This news comes a few weeks after Govinda accidentally shot himself in the leg while cleaning his gun in early October. The 60-year-old Govinda was injured on October 1 due to a gunshot wound from his own revolver. The incident occurred around 4.45 a.m. when he was cleaning the weapon before putting it away. Suddenly, the revolver slipped from his hand and accidentally discharged a bullet, which hit him in the leg. At the time of the incident, neither his wife nor his daughter were at home, and Govinda was getting ready to leave for an event in Kolkata. As he was taken to the hospital in Andheri, the news of Govinda's injury shocked the entire Bollywood, and many prayed for his recovery. The actor-turned-politician is a former MP and joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena in March this year.
17 November,2024 08:03 AM IST | Mumbai | IANSPlaying Mahatma Gandhi can be both, an opportunity of a lifetime as well as a huge responsibility. Surprisingly though, Freedom at Midnight creator-director Nikkhil Advani had only one demand from actor Chirag Vohra—that he shed weight. “When I met Nikkhil sir, he said, ‘Whether I cast you in the character of Gandhi or not is secondary. The first thing that you need to do is lose 15 kg,’” recounts the actor, who weighed 72 kg at the time. “I told sir, ‘If you cast me in the show, I will do whatever you ask me to do.’” With the aid of a dietician-approved meal plan, Vohra lost 16kg in approximately six months, before he reported to the set in January. While Advani was strict about the actor’s diet, he gave Vohra a free rein when it came to bringing Mahatma alive on screen. The actor, who is joined by Sidhant Gupta and Rajendra Chawla in the period drama that revisits the events leading up to India’s partition and independence in 1947, says the creator had immense faith in him as an artiste and let him do his own homework for the part. “Nikkhil sir worked on the show for four years with his writing team. Before going to the shoot, we actors also prepared a lot. But once we reached the set, sir said, ‘Let’s forget all the preparation. Let’s feel the moment and let the magic happen.’ From that, an artiste’s [instinct] emerges and it always goes in the right direction.”
17 November,2024 07:44 AM IST | Mumbai | Priyanka SharmaFour releases in 2024 have kept Rajkummar Rao busy, but he is in no mood to slow down. Last week, the actor wrapped up the shoot of Maalik in Kanpur. What makes the Pulkit-directed film special for the leading man is that it marks his first out-and-out action entertainer. Rao’s two looks in Maalik—bearded (right) and clean-shaven (left) Exploring a genre for the first time requires intense prep. Sure enough, Rao started prepping for the action fare as soon as he wrapped up the shoot of his last offering, Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, in April. A source reveals, “Raj rigorously worked out to build a lithe physique. Jigra’s action director Vikram Dahiya was roped in to design the action set-pieces, and helped the leading man in his prep. While the actor has flirted with the genre earlier in Hit: The First Case [2022], this is the first time he will be seen doing action on such a massive scale. The film rolled in Lucknow in the last week of August, and since then, it was a straight three-month schedule as the unit filmed in Lucknow, Benares and Unnao. They shot a grand Diwali celebration scene in Brahmavart Ghat, lighting thousands of diyas. Their last leg was in Kanpur where they shot the protagonist’s wedding sequence, before calling it a wrap three days ago.” Maalik, also starring Manushi Chhillar, marks Rao’s second collaboration with Pulkit. If the actor-director duo’s maiden project was the historical drama, Bose: Dead/Alive (2017), their next outing hails from a different school of cinema. The source elaborates, “It has been designed as a massy offering. Rajkummar sports two looks in the movie—a clean-shaven one, and the other is a rugged, bearded look. His character transforms from a ruffian to a gangster. He has shot several action set-pieces that include using weapons as well as performing hand-to-hand combat.” Bengali superstar Prosenjit plays Rao’s mentor in Maalik.
17 November,2024 07:39 AM IST | Mumbai | Upala KBRA synergy of ideas can only occur when everyone is in agreement. However, in the case of the Vikrant Massey, Ridhi Dogra, and Raashii Khanna-starrer The Sabarmati Report, the team could not survive the clash of ideas. Producers Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul Mohan, and Anshul Mohan believed the first cut required changes, but director Ranjan Chandel did not share this opinion. So, Dheeraj Sarna, who also served as the dialogue writer, was brought on board. “It was an amicable parting, but I was hoping for an amicable solution,” says Amul. Initially slated for a May release, the film finally hit theatres on November 15. “After screening the first cut, we felt we needed to redo a few things and introduce some key elements. We wanted to enrich what Ranjan sir made. [Despite] the increase in the budget, Ektaa and I were keen to do it. We did try to get Ranjan sir on the same page,” he shares. Amul Mohan and Ranjan Chandel There have been rumours that Chandel left the project due to differences in political opinions for the reshoot, but Amul denies it. “Politics is not the driving force of the film. It is about narratives set by a new medium in India in the 2000s and how they changed the fabric of the nation. We didn’t have to reshoot much—just two to three key scenes driven by drama. Politically driven ideologies were never in contention.” He insists that the story focuses on the death of 59 people on the Sabarmati Express. The makers were acutely aware of the need to be sensitive to people’s sentiments, particularly as the unit included individuals from diverse communities. “We have tried to take everybody together and make this story happen,” says Amul. He adds that the team exercised caution while filming in Ahmedabad’s ghettos, where “anything could spark something in people’s minds. We put fake names of the movie on the clapperboards on the sets so no unnecessary attention was drawn to it,” he explains.
17 November,2024 07:33 AM IST | Mumbai | Upala KBRCalling him out! South star Nayanthara shocked everyone by calling out actor-producer Dhanush for refusing her an NoC (No Objection Certificate) to use footage from their hit film, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015), for her upcoming Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale. The documentary is scheduled for release on her birthday (November 18). Dhanush reportedly sent her a legal notice seeking compensation over the use of a three-second clip without authorisation, demanding R10 crore. In her long letter, she revealed that after two years of battling with the actor for an NoC and awaiting his approval for the documentary release, the team decided to give up, re-edit, and settle for the current version. She wrote, “The vengeance that you have been festering against the film, my partner [Vignesh Shivan] and I, doesn’t just affect us but the people who have given their effort and time towards this project. This is an all-time low from you and speaks so much about your character. I wish you were half the person you portray to be on stage in audio launches in front of your innocent fans, but clearly you do not practise what you preach.” While Dhanush is yet to respond, his female co-stars Shruti Haasan and Nazriya Nazim, have expressed their support for Nayanthara. Working together again After Singham Again, Ajay Devgn has decided to collaborate with Akshay Kumar once more. During an event in the city, Ajay confirmed that he will cast Akshay as the lead in his next directorial venture.
