Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra
The wedding of the month has finally taken place. Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, who fell in love during the making of Shershaah (2021), tied the knot in Suryagarh Palace, Jaisalmer, yesterday, in the presence of family and friends. We hear that the couple picked silver as the colour for the pheras. While the bride wore a lehenga, the groom was dressed in a sherwani. Manish Malhotra designed the couple’s outfits for all the ceremonies. Riding a ghodi, Sid led the baaraat to the bawdi, a step-well of sorts, where the pheras took place. The celebrations will continue over the next few days. The newly-weds will head to Delhi today for rituals at the Malhotra home. They will host a reception for relatives and friends in the capital on February 9. A day later, they will fly to Mumbai. Sid and Kiara will host a lavish reception in a suburban five-star hotel for their industry friends and colleagues on Sunday. Congratulations to the newly-weds!

Twice the fun
Over 13 years since Kaminey, Shahid Kapoor will be seen in a double role on screen. This time around, for director Anees Bazmee’s next. The two, who were in talks for a few months, recently locked the subject. While it is not yet known if Sasha will play twins, as he did in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2009 thriller, it is certain that he will essay dual characters in Bazmee’s yet-untitled comic caper. If things go as planned, the director-actor duo will begin shooting in July. By then, Shahid will have wrapped up Dinesh Vijan’s rom-com with Kriti Sanon, and Siddharth Roy Kapur’s production in which he plays a cop. The female lead for Bazmee’s film will be finalised soon.
Mytho-drama deferred again
Samantha’s mythological drama Shaakuntalam has been deferred, again. Barely 10 days before its scheduled arrival in theatres, the producers broke the news on social media yesterday. They issued a statement, which read: “We regret to inform our beloved audience that we will not be able to release Shaakuntalam on February 17. We will be announcing the new release date soon. Thank you for your continued support and love.” Directed by Gunasekhar, the film was initially scheduled to open on November 4 last year. But the producers pushed it to 2023 as they wanted to release the film in 3D.
Early celebrations for KJo’s twins
Karan Johar’s twins, Roohi and Yash turned six yesterday. Since KJo was scheduled to attend Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s wedding in Jaisalmer on Tuesday, he hosted a bash for his kids in advance. AbRam Khan, Taimur and Jeh Ali Khan, Inaaya Naumi Kemmu, Misha and Zain Kapoor, Vihaan and Samisha Kundra attended the Mickey Mouse-themed party with their star parents. Sharing glimpses from the party, KJo wrote, “This love is difficult to describe, but it feels like a burst of so much love that every other emotion takes a back seat!” The filmmaker-father had a word of advice for his children, as he added, “Always be kind.”

Prequel next
A month after Kantara completed its 100-day run in cinemas, actor-director Rishab Shetty announced the film’s prequel. During the recent celebration to mark the film’s century, Rishab expressed his joy and gratitude to the audience. He said, “With the blessing of almighty Daiva, the film has successfully completed 100 days, and I would like to take this opportunity to announce the prequel of Kantara.” The actor-director revealed that the idea of doing an origin story struck him while the team was filming the 2022 hit. “As the research for the first part is underway, it is too early to reveal anything more at this point,” he stated. However, Rishab promised that unlike last year’s runaway success, which was made on a modest budget, the upcoming instalment will be mounted on a lavish scale. The film is expected to hit the marquee next year.

Batting for safer digital world
On the occasion of Safer Internet Day yesterday, Ayushmann Khurrana spread awareness about ending online violence against children. Sharing that we spend a large part of our lives in the virtual world, he pointed out that it also presents risks to youngsters who access the internet. “From being bullied and abused over private messages, to being trolled publicly through offensive comments on social media posts, we know that online violence is affecting mental health and well-being of children,” he said. The UNICEF celebrity advocate highlighted that it is important to create an environment where children are not afraid to ask for help when they face online abuse, or encounter a breach of privacy. “They must be made aware of the importance of ensuring privacy, avoiding contact with unknown or suspicious profiles, and reporting offences. We must train our kids for mindful use of the internet,” he added.
