Bold bald, short bob and long waves; Tahira Kashyap's three distinct looks

Director Tahira Kashyap, who is also the wife of Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana, recently walked the ramp three times for celebrity designer Manish Malhotra for his 'Namo Bharat' show in New Delhi. The first time, she sported a completely bald look, the second with a little hair, and the third with dense hair. Tahira told, “My hair journey has been incredibly transformative. It’s taught me so much about vanity, beauty, and, most importantly, perception and perspective, showing me that nothing can be put in a box”.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by tahirakashyapkhurrana (@tahirakashyap) She continued, “I went through three distinct looks when I went bald, losing my hair not by choice, but I chose to embrace the bald look, and I genuinely liked how I looked. It really challenged conventional ideas of beauty, and, to be honest, I felt beautiful in that phase, too”. She further mentioned that her hair is a reflection of her journey. She shared, “As my hair started growing back into a short crop, and eventually became long again, I loved that look just as much. I’ve since chopped it back, and I realise that my hair, in its various stages, has been a reflection of my personal journey”. In 2018, Tahira was diagnosed with stage 0 breast cancer. In 2019, she underwent a mastectomy. She also explained how walking the ramp for such causes raises awareness, as she said, “I believe when you have someone like Manish Malhotra involved, and then the PMO also associated with the project, everything naturally becomes bigger, the scale, the platform, and the message you’re conveying. It amplifies the reach and impact. Whether it’s a ramp walk or any platform, when the scale is larger, the message resonates more strongly with the audience because of the reach. So, with Manish’s incredible costumes and the platform we had, I really hope the message went beyond just the fashion, and I believe it did”. She walked the ramp with Sonali Bendre and Hina Khan. It was a special event signifying the strength and courage of women and was specially dedicated to cancer survivors. Kartik Aaryan and Triptii Dimri also walked the ramp and were the showstoppers.  Tahira Kashyap's advice to women Tahira also put out a message out there for all women with regards to their health. She said, “The only advice is early breast cancer detection. If you are talking about breast cancer. Take your body seriously, if there are any changes don’t sit on it. Please reach out to your doctor at the earliest. Keep doing self examinations and apart from that keep your mental and physical health into consideration”. Tahira Kashyap's filmography and past projects Tahira's directorial debut 'Sharmajee Ki Beti' came out on Prime Video in June this year. It starred Sakshi Tanwar, Divya Dutta and Saiyami Kher, it was appreciated by critics and loved by audiences.  Previously, she has directed a Flipkart original feature film 'Pinni' starring Neena Gupta.

Singham Again Trailer: Ajay gears up for epic ‘Lanka Dahan’ to rescue Kareena

The wait is over! The trailer for the biggest film of the year, 'Singham Again', is finally out, and it can't get any bigger. With a star-studded cast and action-packed scenes, the 'Singham Again' trailer proved that the cop drama is exactly the break you were looking for this Diwali. What’s in the 'Singham Again' Trailer? Singham Again brings together Rohit Shetty’s biggest cop universe, reuniting all his iconic characters while also introducing new ones. The trailer begins with Kareena Kapoor explaining the Ramayana to her son, followed by a scene where her character gets abducted like Sita, and Ajay Devgn is all set to be the Ram of her life. Deepika Padukone’s character, Shakti Shetty, appears quite quirky as she introduces herself as Lady Singham.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Kareena Kapoor Khan (@kareenakapoorkhan) To create this larger-than-life cop drama, Rohit Shetty has taken inspiration from the Ramayana, where Kareena and Ajay represent Sita and Ram, while Tiger Shroff plays Singham’s shadow, much like Laxman. Singham Again will release this Diwali Earlier, it was reported by Mid-Day that the makers of 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3' had a meeting with 'Singham Again' director Rohit Shetty and leading man Ajay Devgn to discuss a potential box office clash. A source revealed, “Bhushan believes that both 'Singham Again' and 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3' are possible Rs 500-crore grossers. But he felt that the clash would prevent both films from realizing their full potential. So, he requested Rohit and Ajay to push their film’s release.” Bhushan argued that Bazmee was the first to announce a Diwali release for 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3', but Rohit Shetty was firm about not delaying his film any further. "At the meeting, Ajay and Rohit pointed out that they had already pushed their film from its original Independence Day release because Allu Arjun’s 'Pushpa 2: The Rule' was slated to hit cinemas the same day. They don’t want to postpone it again. 'Singham Again' is a highly anticipated movie, and the actor-director duo believes further delays won’t help matters," a source revealed. Punjab 95

Jaswant Singh Khalra's family condemns CBFC's demand for 120 cuts in Punjab ’95

On October 3, Paramjit Kaur Khalra, the widow of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, issued a statement condemning the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) demand of nearly 120 cuts in Punjab ’95. Lending her support to Honey Trehan’s directorial venture that “upheld the legacy of Shaheed Jaswant Singh Khalra,” she appealed to the Prasoon Joshi-led body to “not attempt to change proven facts depicted in the film”. This came on the heels of mid-day breaking the story of how the CBFC has doled out more than 100 changes in Khalra’s biopic, which include renaming the protagonist and the film, dropping references to Tarn Taran and Punjab, and removing religious elements like the Gurbani (Cut, cut till you edit history? Sep 25). Paramjit Kaur Khalra with her late husband’s portrait  mid-day contacted Paramjit, who expressed her disappointment that Punjab ’95—a biopic that sheds light on Khalra’s role in investigating the disappearance and killings of Sikh youths during the Punjab insurgency between 1984 and 1994—has been stuck with the censor board since December 2022. “I feel this is not a critical issue; it is being made one on purpose,” she said, speaking to us from the US. “There is no problem because the film is based on facts, and everything is in the public domain. The court’s hearing and decision were based on those facts. The film we have seen is the one we want people to see. If the film is not shown, it could cause public outrage. However, if the right version is released, it will benefit both the public and the governments creating this environment. Paramjit Kaur Khalra and Navkiran Kaur Khalra This film is about standing by the truth and what is right. What happened in this story is something no one will dare to repeat in the future. Perhaps it will expose some people. This is the first time the public will see how Mr Khalra was captured and killed. The more you try to hide the truth, the more it will come out. So, this will benefit no one. Punjab understands Mr Khalra’s point, and the leaders do too. Hiding the truth is a systemic policy, but it’s just a Google search away.”Punjab ’95 sees Diljit Dosanjh step into the shoes of Khalra, who had disappeared in September 1995. Ten years later, six Punjab police officials were convicted for his murder. Trehan’s film not only examines the dark chapter of Punjab, but also raises questions about the activist’s murder. Khalra’s daughter Navkiran, who resides in the US, said that they were initially reluctant about a movie as they knew it would face severe opposition. “Anyone who is active in the civil rights and human rights struggle doesn’t have any faith that the Indian government or the higher-ups will allow the facts to be shown. We had this skepticism,” she recalled. It was Trehan’s methodical approach and determination that made her believe that her activist-father’s story would reach the audience. “We watched the movie last year. He stayed true, word for word, to what he had committed to in the script. It was exciting that it was going to the Toronto International Film Festival [in 2023]. But all of a sudden, the censor board and the Bombay High Court case came in, and the movie had to be removed from the film festival. That was [heartbreaking]. Recently, the CBFC came back with 120 cuts and [the instruction of] changing the name. Then, it’s no more a biopic, right? It’s complete slaughter. Punjab is not allowed to show its version of the history that happened and that has been proven in the Supreme Court. Our lawyer, Mr Bains, gave Honey all the facts and court documents. Honey [studied] the news archives. All the incidents depicted in this movie are true. The only fictionalised part is the way of storytelling.” Navkiran is clear that the family won’t accept the CBFC-recommended changes. “We want the film that was shown to us and the one that we agreed with Honey, to be shown to the public. YouTube already has these videos, documents and documentaries by other human rights activists. It’s also a bad precedent in terms of art, where [filmmakers] have to comply with the government that’s in power. If India is trying to become a superpower, it should set themselves against the US standards. We have seen movies made on Iraq after the Iraq war; they were critical of the US government.” The wait continues Director Trehan and producer Ronnie Screwvala were to meet the CBFC last month and discuss their reservations against the nearly 120 changes. But the CBFC has yet to meet the makers. A source revealed, “There is radio silence on the film. We have heard that a new Revising Officer will be assigned soon, but there is no official intimation.” Trehan and Screwvala are said to be frustrated over the delay in receiving certification as they had hoped to release the film this year. They have a pending deal with an OTT platform after it releases theatrically.

Shriya Pilgaonkar

Shriya Pilgaonkar wants to do a big period drama with Sanjay Leela Bhansali

She has web series such as "Mirzapur", "Guilty Minds", "The Broken News" and "Taaza Khabar" to her credit and Shriya Pilgaonkar says she's now gunning for the big screen, hoping to star in a Sanjay Leela Bhansali period drama. One of the most recognisable faces on OTT, Shriya started her career with the 2013 Marathi film "Ekulti Ek", directed by her father Sachin Pilgaonkar. The actor, also known for movies across languages "Un plus une", "Fan", and "House Arrest", has two feature films in the pipeline which will be announced soon. "Ideally, I want to keep a balance, which is why today, I'm focusing more on films now. That's perhaps a medium that I've not done enough of or it's not come too much my way... I've been wanting to dance on screen. "I want to do that one big cinematic period drama, out-an-out all guns blazing, Sanjay Leela Bhansali film because a lot of my work has been rooted in reality. I want to experience Bollywood masala larger-than-life films... That is every actor's dream," she told PTI in an interview. It is an exciting time for her, said the 35-year-old, who is ready to get out of her comfort zone. "You have to take risks and fight for yourself for growth. It's not like things are laid down on a plate. I'm also working with people to build ideas to develop stories for myself. "Recently, I was on the jury of the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles. I met young writers, aspiring filmmakers, and wonderful actors and it made me realise that you have to take creative control and create the path for yourself." Shriya currently stars in the second season of "Taaza Khabar", in which she reprised her role of the sex worker Madhu, whom she described as a dignified and spunky woman. She credited the Disney+ Hotstar show, fronted by YouTuber-actor Bhuvan Bam, for letting her try her hand at comedy years after "Ekulti Ek". "Earlier comedians were stereotyped, but today, the definition of comedy has expanded. Maybe it's subtle, sometimes it's conversational. It may not be slapstick every single time, but I enjoy comedy. I want to do more genres like dark comedies, which are exciting." For Shriya, daughter of actor couple Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar, acting happened organically. While she was always confident both in front of the camera and on stage, it was only when she started training as a Kathak dancer that she felt closely connected to the performing art. She is also a professional swimmer. "I'm lucky that I didn't come into the industry just because my parents were there. I honed and trained myself, and that is something I value. I didn't take it for granted, it was an organic way of coming (into the industry)" Her journey has been different from other star kids, she added. "I was not on the cover of magazines before my work (came out). My journey has been such that my work has spoken for itself outside Maharashtra. "I realised after 'Mirzapur', there were a lot of people who didn't put two and two together that 'I'm Sachin and Supriya's daughter'. For me, that was the compliment that my work reached sooner than my identity," said Shriya, who started off making short films, and documentaries. The actor said family can't always be a safety blanket for the next generation. "You're going to have to fall or learn from your own thing. People will say whatever they want to, but we all know what individual journeys have been like. "Eventually at the end of one's career to sustain in showbiz is not easy, so the only way you're going to sustain yourself is if you create your own path. I've always believed that the best way to be different is to be yourself, and focus on your work." This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Usha Uthup collaborates with British singer-songwriter Apache Indian

Legendary singer Usha Uthup has collaborated with British singer-songwriter Apache Indian for the bonus track ‘London Dreams’ from the Assamese film ‘Sikaar’. The veteran singer said that the depth of Assamese culture and its emotional plane allowed her and Apache Indian to find a common ground.  ‘Sikaar, directed by Debangkar Borgohain, debuted in cinemas on September 20. However, it wasn’t until recently that the bonus track was released. The fusion of Apache Indian’s reggae beats with Usha Uthup’s vocals and featuring Zubeen Garg is getting a lot of positive response from the Assamese audience. Talking about her collaboration with Apache Indian, Usha Uthup told IANS, “We come from different musical worlds, but Assamese culture is so wide and emotional that it helped us find common ground. Music has no boundaries, and with ‘London Dreams’, we were able to blend our styles while keeping the essence of Assam alive". For producer Sam Bhattacharjee, bringing Apache Indian,Usha Uthup, music composer Sameer Sen and singer-actor Zubeen Garg together was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He said, “Each artiste has such a distinct style, but we aimed to showcase the richness of Assamese culture by blending it with global sounds. The magic happened because all of them were able to bring their unique flair while connecting with the emotional depth of Assam”. When asked about how Indian music will fare on the international stage going forward, Sam told IANS, “We are seeing a cross-cultural exchange like never before. Indian music is expanding beyond borders, and the collaboration in ‘London Dreams’ is a proof of that. The world is listening to India, and the future is incredibly exciting”.
