Ranveer Singh took to Instagram to reveal that he will participate in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game in Cleveland, alongside the likes of comedian Tiffany Haddish, rappers and recording artists like Anuel, Machine Gun Kelly, Jack Harlow and Quavo. “I have loved basketball and the NBA since my childhood and have always been fascinated with its influence on popular culture including music, fashion and entertainment,” Ranveer had said during his announcement as the brand ambassador. “With the NBA tipping off its 75th season celebrations, there couldn’t have been a better time to join forces with the league and support their efforts to grow basketball in the country,” he added.

Reuniting after 27 years, Ahmed Khan, AR Rahman and Mehboob kicked off the final schedule of Heropanti 2 this week. The trio last worked together on Ram Gopal Varma’s Rangeela. Yesterday, leading man Tiger Shroff shot for a massive song sequence which is a modern qawwali. Khan told the press that producer Sajid Nadiadwala wanted them to recreate the magic of Rangeela. 

On road to recovery

Veteran actor and filmmaker Amol Palekar has been admitted to the Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune to deal with a prolonged illness. The actor, 77, is now stable and recuperating well. His wife Sandhya Gokhale said, “This is an old illness [developed] due to excessive smoking. He was admitted to the hospital 10 years ago as well.” The actor was last seen in 200 Halla Ho on Zee5, which is based on a real-life incident when 200 Dalit women lynched Akku Yadav, a gangster, robber, serial rapist and killer in open court in Nagpur in 2004.

Looks like Madhuri Dixit-Nene has sealed a date with the audience for her first web series. Yesterday, the trailer of The Fame Game dropped online. If the trailer is any indication, the Netflix drama, backed by Dharmatic Entertainment, revolves around a Bollywood superstar Anamika Anand who, one fine day, vanishes without a trace. The International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) 2022, which was scheduled to be held in March, has been postponed following the rapidly changing public health situation and the spread of COVID-19 globally. The new dates for the event are May 20-21. 

The Great Khali’s big political move

Indian professional wrestler and former Bigg Boss contestant Dalip Singh Rana, popularly known as The Great Khali has joined the Bhartiya Janata Party ahead of the upcoming Punjab Legislative Assembly election, 2022. A news agency shared the news on Twitter. The Great Khali said in a press conference, “I have joined BJP today, I am so happy. I am not here for name or fame. I was staying in the USA, but I came here in India after taking inspiration from our Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

The pandemic or not, there’s no stopping Akshay Kumar. The actor took to Twitter to announce that his magnum opus, Prithviraj, will hit theatres on June 10. Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s period drama marks the Bollywood debut of former Miss World Manushi Chhillar. The superstar has already booked the Holi window at the box-office for Bachchan Pandey. Kumar recently featured in Sooryavanshi and Atrangi Re.

Alia attempts the garba

Gangubai Kathiawadi’s first song, Dholida, released yesterday. It sees Alia Bhatt attempt garba. The song has been scored by filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali who stays true to his style of blending folksy beats with massy tunes. The lyrics have been penned by Kumaar.  

No takers for Shahid?

In a series of tweets, filmmaker Hansal Mehta expressed his displeasure over his 2013 release, Shahid not being streamed on any OTT platform. “Sad that Shahid is not on any OTT platform. It is a personal tragedy for me and for all those who toiled to make this film against all odds. It is a tragedy for Shahid Azmi,” wrote the filmmaker, lamenting how a film that premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and won  two National Awards has no takers online.
