It is known that De De Pyaar De 2 (DDPD2), starring Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh, is set to go on floors next month. Now, we hear that R Madhavan has been signed on for a pivotal role in the rom-com to be helmed by Anshul Sharma. This development marks a reunion for the two actors after Shaitaan, in which Maddy played the evil antagonist. However, this time around, their on-screen face-off will have humorous tones in keeping with the plot of a 50-year-old businessman meeting his 26-year-old girlfriend’s family to seek approval of their relationship. Interestingly, DDPD2 also marks Maddy’s return to the genre, nine years after Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015). The Luv Ranjan production is a sequel to the 2019 hit in which the leading lady bonds with the businessman’s family, including his estranged wife, played by Tabu. At this point, it is not known if Tabu will reprise her role in the sequel or not.

Picking the bigger deal

Anil Kapoor has reportedly opted out of De De Pyaar De 2. He was to essay the role of Rakul Preet Singh’s father in this rom-com, which stars Ajay Devgn as her beau. Sources claim that a considerable shoot of this Anshul Sharma-directed venture is scheduled around the same time as War 2, which stars Hrithik Roshan, NTR Junior, and Kiara Advani. Anil plays the head of the covert agency in the new YRF spy thriller. Since he has a long-term commitment to Aditya Chopra’s production house and is also said to be a key part of the Alia Bhatt-led spy film, the actor opted out of the De De Pyaar De sequel. Moreover, Anil is also committed to Subedaar, which is slated to go on floors next month.

While some may point out that a vast cast limits the scope for actors, on the plus side, it can also come in handy. Ask producer Firoz A Nadiadwallah and director Ahmed Khan, who are making Welcome to the Jungle with an ensemble cast comprising Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Arshad Warsi, Disha Patani, Jacqueliene Fernandez, and Raveena Tandon, among others. After Sanjay Dutt’s exit from the project a few weeks ago, it is now being said that Suniel Shetty has stepped into his role. In that case, what happened to Suniel’s character, you might ask? Well, that is being played by Jackie Shroff, who joined the cast last month. Their characters have been altered in keeping with their rough-and-tough image.

It appears that the Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Katrina Kaif, and Alia Bhatt-starrer Jee Le Zaraa is being revived. The Farhan Akhtar-directed venture made news for the casting coup when the film was first announced in 2021. However, it was put on the back burner as the actors had signed other projects and their dates were not coordinating. Recent rumours indicate that Farhan and his production partner, Ritesh Sidhwani, are keen to bring Jee Le Zaraa back on track. Apparently, the filmmaker had met PeeCee to discuss reviving the film. He has been in touch with Kat and Alia for the same as well. They are said to be working out the combination dates with the positive intent of taking the film on floors as soon as possible. While Farhan is set to begin filming Don 3 with Ranveer Singh early next year, hopefully, by then, we will have a clearer picture of Jee Le Zaraa too.
