A tweet from actor Govinda's Twitter handle condemning the Haryana violence went viral on Thursday morning. However, the tweet led to Govinda getting trolled and receiving abusive messages from a section of people on the social networking site. The actor had shared a post on Twitter (now X) - purportedly about Muslim shops being looted in the city - and sparked instant debate in the comment section. However, the post was deleted after facing the fury of netizens who lashed out at the actor. The account was eventually deleted from the social media network.

While netizens thought he deleted his account owing to the trolling, Govinda clarified that he was not aware of the tweet. He took to his Instagram handle on Thursday morning to clarify that he did not put out any tweet on the Haryana violence and that his account was hacked.

"Just got a call from @mumbaigirl14 about a Tweet. I would like to say that my Twitter account has been hacked so please do not attribute the Haryana tweet to me. I have not posted it," he wrote sharing a clarification video.

In the clip, he said "Please do not attribute this Haryana tweet to me, as I have not done this. Somebody has hacked my account. I am just doing a complaint to the cybercrime (department) now. I will look into the matter."

Addressing his fans from Haryana, he said that he hasn't been using his Twitter handle for a long time now and said that it was hacked. He also said that no one from his team also posted the tweet and they would not do it without his permission. He claimed that the people behind the hack may have something to do with the upcoming elections.

Clashes between two groups broke out in Haryana's Nuh on Monday afternoon after a religious procession passing through the district came under attack, leaving two home guards dead and dozens of people including around 20 policemen injured in the frenzy of violence that followed. Following the violence, the security in the districts adjoining Nuh -- Faridabad, Palwal, and Gurugram-- were strengthened
