Gauahar Khan’s film 14 Phere co-starring Kriti Kharbanda and Vikrant Massey is all set for its television premiere on &pictures today. The actress discusses her prep for three different roles in the film and speaks about enjoying Instagram, thanks to husband Zaid Darbar.

How did you pull off three roles in 14 Phere?
14 Phere was a challenge and I wanted to see if I could pull off three characters, two of them almost double my age. In my career, I’ve picked roles that many people may think is not the right decision at that time, or I’m not cast opposite someone, but I need to be convinced about the character, that it would be impactful to the story. Rubina is one of the most important roles in 14 Phere and how she helps Kriti Kharbandra and Vikrant Massey’s characters to eventually come together and bring light to some of the bigger issues society faces in a light manner. The feedback I’ve got for the film online is fabulous and I can’t wait for the TV release because many more people will be able to watch it.

What was the prep like?

We had to go through many prosthetic tests to see what would suit my face. Devanshu sir (director) didn’t want the two mothers to look fake and be convincing as Vikrant and Kriti’s parents. My character in the film is that of a fabulous theatre actress from Delhi. I had to work on my mannerism and two different accents - Rajasthani and Bihari, to ensure the part doesn’t look caricature-ish. I had a dialect coach and they were convinced I would pull it off, so I did one session each. There was a lot of work pre shoot so we didn’t have to waste time on set.

You have been very active on Instagram off late…
Zaid Darbar, my husband, introduced me to social media in a way that I wasn’t aware of earlier. Now I’m enjoying it, I like being creative on social media. It’s doing well for me and I’m happy. The content and views are all by me, I’ve always been vocal about my thoughts. Instagram gives me a platform to express myself in a fun way.
