Tell us about your new song Retrace and the idea behind it?
Retrace is about pain of the artistes who are forgotten by people when they’re alive but got noticed more after death. The song reflects the reality of how people look at an artiste. The song has a melancholy melody which gives the vibe of how we feel from the inside when we come across the harsh reality of the world The song reaches out to those who are always let down by someone and are told that they aren’t good enough, that they need to keep changing themselves for those, who don’t care about them.
Your other song Aajaa with Himesh Reshammiya has also been in the news...
I actually recorded the song in Los Angeles in the Pandemic time and didn’t know when it will be released. I was thrilled to be working with Himesh Reshammiya sir once again on Aajaa. It’s got an awesome party vibe and energy going throughout. I love his style of composing songs and of course I love Aajaa song too!
How is Kumar Sanu as a father and the qualities you admire about your dad?
He’s is an amazing father. I grew up in a very loving home with my parents and my sister. He’s always so positive and motivating yet at the same time he can get extremely strict when it comes to work and career. Our conversations are never through words it’s always through music, whether it’s him sharing his new song or I ask him about my song If I sang good enough or need any improvement. He’s an institution of music. Some of the qualities I really admire is of course his passion and dedication for his work, his humor, his positive attitude towards everything in life and his free spirit nature. He has a clean heart, if he’s happy or angry, you can see on his face. Dad is very straightforward and advises me to be straightforward as well.
Any career advice that he has given you?
He always tells me that success and fame are two different things. Anybody can get famous by doing something weird on social media but it doesn’t last long. Success only comes through hardwork and it takes time, sometimes even a lifetime. He also says that success isn’t an instant noodle so never rush, when it comes through working hard, it stays forever
Do you plan to shift base to India?
Maybe. India is my birthplace so if I’ll have plenty of work, I’d move here. Though my ultimate goal and dream is to become a global artist so I shall keep working in Los Angeles too. People in India are quite warm and loving. I’ll keep traveling to home in LA to meet my mom and sister , as I have a home in India and the US both!
