After over a decade, Emraan Hashmi returns to the gangster genre with Mumbai Saga. After Milan Luthria’s Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), he decided to wait as none of the stories offered surprised him. In Sanjay Gupta’s film, he plays a cop “who is no less than a gangster. I realised I had something to chew on with this story,” he says.

Sanjay Gupta has always been fascinated by the world of crime. A majority of his characters have been on the other side of the law. Some were by choice, some by circumstances. After Shootout At Wadala, he turns his eyes on Mumbai when it was Bombay.

Once again, we have Abraham as a gangster, this time essaying the role of Amartya Rao. And hot on his trail is Hashmi, who abides by the law for the first time in his career. Given the narratives of a lot of Hindi films in the past where the audience rooted more for the antagonist than they did for the hero, whose side do you choose to be on this time?

Gupta assembles an impressive cast of actors like Gulshan Grover, Kajal Aggarwal, Mahesh Manjrekar, Prateik Babban, Amol Gupte, Rohit Roy, and Suniel Shetty. Earlier slated to release on June 19, 2020, Mumbai Saga now arrives in cinemas on March 19 this year. The movie was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Also, Yo Yo Honey Singh makes a special appearance in the Shor Machega track in Mumbai Saga. After rendering the song, the makers felt he should be part of it in the film as well. Hashmi also has Chehre with Amitabh Bachchan coming up soon.

The thriller has been helmed by Rummy Jafry and produced by Anand Pandit. Chehre also features, Siddhanth Kapoor, Krystle Dsouza, Raghubir Yadav and Annu Kapoor. The film is produced by Anand Pandit Motion Pictures and Saraswati Entertainment Private Limited.
