What’s the first thing that comes to mind when we mention a guy straddling two bikes? Hindi cinema lovers will answer in a heartbeat — Ajay Devgn. When action director Veeru Devgan had designed it as the entry scene for his actor-son in Phool Aur Kaante (1991), little had he imagined that the sequence would remain iconic decades down the line. Devgn, who completes 30 years in the industry this week, says the film and that sequence catapulted him to one of Bollywood’s leading action stars.

“Celebrating 30 years to my debut film is special. I didn’t think a stunt scene, the one that had me coming astride two motorcycles, would become such a defining moment in my career. I still remember the thrill I felt when I performed the split,” he recounts. Since then, Devgn has gone on to headline memorable films, picking up awards along the way. But he confesses that his debut movie, which will be showcased on Zee Bollywood on Monday, remains special to him. “My father directed that shot, and there was no intervention from stunt doubles. [Over the years], Hindi cinema has widened its horizons, and I am fortunate to be a part of this ever-evolving industry.”
