Born on January 22, 1972, in a Maharashtrian family, Namrata is the granddaughter of noted Marathi actress Meenakshi Shirodkar. She began her journey in the glamour world with modeling and was crowned Miss India in 1993, representing India at the Miss Universe pageant.

After winning the Miss India title, she entered the Bollywood industry. Namrata debuted with a small role in 'Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai' in 1998, alongside Salman Khan and Twinkle Khanna. Her breakthrough came with the highly praised film 'Vaastav: The Reality' (1999), where she played Sonia "Sonu" Shivalkhar, Raghu's wife, showcasing her versatile acting talent.
Namrata went on to star in several films like Hera Pheri, Astitva, Tera Mera Saath Rahen, LOC Kargil, among others. Despite her success, she took a hiatus in 2005 after marrying prominent Telugu actor Mahesh Babu. Living in Hyderabad, the couple has two children, a son, and a daughter.
In an interview, Namrata shared about leaving her acting career, stating, "I started really young and was not as career-driven as my sister (Shilpa Shirodkar). I happily gave up movies to play the role I was born to play: Mrs. Mahesh Babu. Birthdays for me mean being with my husband and children. They are my world."
In a decade-long career, Namrata has worked with several Bollywood A-listers, including Salman Khan, Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Raveena Tandon, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
