Stardom comes with its own trials and tribulations. Not only does one need to have the talent, but one also needs to handle fame well.

Then there’s the whole promotional rigmarole that a star has to go through every time a film is up for release. And yes, not everyone is equally witty. At a time when celebs are asked more about their personal lives than their work, the art of speaking well does come in handy. Nothing reiterates this more than some recent statements that a few Bollywood stars have made. Be it big or small — several actors and actresses have made remarks that made us wonder, ‘What got into them?’
Whether they said these things merely to catch us off guard, to grab headlines or because they were unsure themselves is anybody’s guess. hitlist brings you some of these ‘huh-huh’ statements made by tinsel town’s leading names...
Kangna Ranaut
Quote unquote: “I don’t give physical relationships that much importance. I’ll be okay if my man has sex with someone else. It won’t make me insecure. But yes, if he’s in love with another woman, I will have to let him go.”
Our take: Given her past, Kangna clearly knows a thing or two about complicated relationships. But that’s no reason to let it seep into her present. A rethinking of what she said is in order, we’d say.
Anushka Sharma
Quote unquote: “A friend of Deepika had called up to say that she is doing Yeh Jawaani Hai Diwani and not Anushka. My ‘friends’ don't call, do they? I am Kashyap’s and Hirani’s choice. She is Ayan’s and whosoever’s. I never pull anybody down. That makes me nice, right?”
Our take: Okay, Anushka. Point noted. But please practice what you preach and instead of saying what makes you nicer than others.
Emraan Hashmi
Quote unquote: “Raja Natwarlal is a family film with kissing scenes.”
Our take: We wish that Emraan had paid heed to his co-star Humaima Malick’s statement. The Pakistani actress admitted that her kissing scene will be edited out in Pakistan. Indeed, is there such a thing as a family film that also has kisses galore? We suggest you seal your lips either way.
Salman Khan
Quote unquote: “I am a virgin. I’m going to save myself for the one that I get married to.”
Our take: Hahahaha. Says the man who has all the women in the industry eating out of his hands. We rest our case.
Kareena Kapoor
Quote unquote: “There is no heroine like me who has left more films than I have, and given them on a platter to everybody and said go do it.”
Our take: Why talk so much about projects you let go of? Hope Bebo chooses films worth talking about instead of harping on about films that she could’ve been a part of and how she inadvertently gave her competition a fighting chance.
Katrina Kaif
Quote unquote: “It’s final and lock it. I am not getting married to anyone for next 20 to 30 years.”
Our take: Err. That would have a certain Kapoor scion very worried, especially in the light of recent rumours about the couple moving in together. Besides, 20 to 30 years is a long time, now isn’t it?
Sonam Kapoor
Quote unquote: “Give Katrina a bouquet. I don’t know how she does it. You need a certain kind of commitment and a certain kind of shamelessness to do certain things.”
Our take: Oh no, not again. The actress is known to put her foot in her mouth and looks like this was one of those moments. The jury’s still out on what brought on this wave for appreciation for Kat’s ‘shamelessness’.
Rani Mukerji
Quote unquote: “I want to expect soon, Adi says that I am born to be a mother.”
Our take: Is Mrs Chopra trying to give us some hints here? But then again, ‘I want to start a family soon’ would have probably done the trick, as opposed to making sweeping statements about her purpose on earth.
Mallika Sherawat
Quote unquote: “I was the first actress in India to kiss on screen and wear a bikini. Imagine in this 21st century? And instantly I became a fallen woman and a superstar at the same time.”
Our take: Ever heard of the saying, Silence is golden? Yes, that one. And oh, checking one’s facts before speaking, if at all, is always a great idea.
