What people see on screen is fiction: Kareena Kapoor Khan

Kareena Kapoor is looking forward to the New Year with excitement. On the professional front, she's kicked about her film with Hrithik Roshan.

“He’s the only superstar I haven’t worked with in almost a decade.” The other thing on her agenda is spotting a tiger. “I want to visit Ranthambore National Park to spot a big cat. I have told Saif that we have to do it next year.” Here’s what she told CS in a candid chat.

Safety first
The issue of women’s safety is close to my heart. I understand and empathise with this matter as I come from a family of working women — my mother, sister and me. Lolo and me started working from a young age and security was always a concern. As far as the objectification of women in films is concerned, I feel it’s easiest to blame Bollywood, we are soft targets. There are other issues, which are deep-rooted and need to be solved. What people see on screen is fiction. If I play a murderer in a film, it does not mean that I am one in real life.

No need to regret
Looking back, I was happy to do films like Heroine and Satyagraha. The role in Heroine was quite challenging and I enjoyed playing a journalist in Prakashji’s (Prakash Jha) film. Yes, some choices have been bad and I take the blame for it. Actors do make wrong judgements. It’s not a crime (laughs out loud). I have no regrets, though. God has given me too much to regret anything in life. The word regret doesn’t exist in my dictionary.

A different take
I want 2014 to be a year of revelation for me. I want to work with new people and directors. Also, I want to read every page of a script that I get, I have never done that in my entire life. I now want to experiment with my films. I did a Chameli and Dev when I was just 22. Now, I want to continue in that mode. Ilove Zoya’s (Zoya Akhtar’s) work and want to work with her. Ialso enjoyed Dibakar Banerjee’s Khosla Ka Ghosla. Lately, I haven’t seen many Bollywood films and want to catch up on them.

Bonding with my bro
Ranbir (Kapoor) is doing extremely well for himself. I don’t think I need to give him any advice (laughs out loud). He will go a long way, as he’s supremely talented. I love the way he acts. The fact that he has not stuck to the commercial genre and experimented with offbeat films show that he’s a brave actor.

It’s all in fun
The statement made about Katrina (Kaif) on a popular chat show was said in jest. I don’t think I have said anything wrong. They do look good together. I spent some time with Katrina in Beirut where Saif (Saif Ali Khan) is currently shooting. She’s a lovely person, extremely hard-working and down-to-earth. There’s nothing wrong in saying that they look good together (laughs out loud).u00a0
