Director Sanjay Gupta might be known for his dark films, but his choice of books is equally dark. A voracious reader, Sanjay's library is filled with biographies, travel diaries, pulp crime stories as well as Hindi literature. He shares his favourites with CS:
The Heroin Diaries
This book is written by Nikki Sixx of the Motley Crue. He was a total drug addict and the surprising thing is that he wrote this book when he was at the height of his drug induced delusions. This book is a great insight into Nikki's brilliant mind.u00a0
Genius and Heroin
Well, you must be thinking that I am obsessed with heroin (laughs)! This book has short biographies of some of the greatest minds ever in history right from poets, musicians, philosophers, artists, etc. It also tells you how these people got hooked onto the drug. It's a very gripping read!u00a0
Texas Death Row
Now, this a very morbid book. It has portraits of prisoners who were convicted to death on the Texas Death Row. It is a very austere book, which gives details about their crime and last wishes before dying. When I read the book, I just couldn't handle it.u00a0
Long Way Round
This book is written by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, who made a 19,000 mile journey from UK to Cape Town on their bikes. I am an avid biker and could identify with all the experiences narrated by them.u00a0 It's a lovely novel.
The Killer Inside Me
I love pulp crime fiction. This book is written by Jim Thompson who's also written books like The Getaway and The Grifters. It is the story of Lou Ford, a young deputy sheriff who is also a depraved sociopath. It is a very uncompromising novel.
