Tamil producers want Katrina and not Kareena for 3 Idiots remake

While Kareena Kapoor won several awards as Pia in 3 Idiots, she won't be part of the Tamil or Telugu remakes of the film. Her archrival, Katrina Kaif, however, has been approached to play the part in the Tamil version.

Gemini Film Circuit has bagged the South Indian remake rights for 3 Idiots. The producers approached Kat to play the lead opposite Tamil actor Vijay. However, at his point, she is unsure if she will be able to act in it. So ultimately, the role might go to some other actress.

A source spills details on the meeting between Kat and the producers. "She was their first choice for the role. They were willing to pay her any price to have her in the film. 3 Idiots is the highest-grossing Indian film. Not surprisingly, their south remakes will also be made on huge budgets. Even though Kat has only done a few south films, the makers wanted her because of the star power. Vijay is a huge star in the Tamil film industry, so they needed someone equally prolific to match his appeal."

A source close to Kat confirms, "Yes, She was approached for the remake. But she is unable to do the film because of date problems. She has given bulk dates for Dostana 2 and Zoya Akhtar's film with Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol."

Apart from the Tamil version, there will also be a Telugu remake with actor Pawan Kalyan. The producers are looking for leading ladies for that as well.
