Yesterday, Swara Bhasker took on filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri and called him "low and sick" after he called her a "fake feminist" and tweeted that she travel to the tribal area of Bastar to understand "how the real vagina" feels like.
Ever since the Anaarkali of Aarrah (2017) wrote an open letter to Sanjay Leela Bhansali saying that his film, Padmaavat, made her feel reduced to a "vagina only" due to the jauhar climax scene, she has had her share of detractors. Agnihotri is the latest. He tweeted, "We have interviewed many ex-Naxal women in Bastar."
"Each has a gut-wrenching story to tell, full of abuse, rape and misogyny. If they marry, they aren't allowed to have children. I think Swara must make a trip to understand how the 'real vagina' feels like." He added, "What women need to understand is that it's because of fake feminists like Swara that the feminist movement gets jeopardised." The actor replied, "I'm sorry did you just suggest that I go get myself raped? Like seriously (sic)?" The vagina dialogues continue.
Meanwhile, many actors tweeted in support of Swara:
You have every right to disagree with someone’s point of view, just remember to keep it civil.

It’s not surprising to see the wrath @ReallySwara is being doled out for expressing her views. But one can hope the discourse will change. Stay brave @ReallySwara

It’s appalling how everyone has swooped down so cruelly on @ReallySwara ! Come on guys.. whichever side of the debate you’re on.. you cannot abuse her for expressing what she feels! She is a brave, independent voice. Respect that. Not many of her ilk left around here.

Mad respect to you @ReallySwara for expressing your opinion. You don't have to agree with every opinion, but disagreeing with so much hatred is unnecessary. #SwaraBhaskar u00e2u009du00a4u00efu00b8u008f
