Cinematographer Ravi K Chandran, who has been a part of films like Ghajini, My Name Is Khan and OK Jaanu among others, is all set to make his directorial debut with the Hindi remake of the Tamil blockbuster, S3.

Sunny Deol, one of Bollywood's favourite action stars, has been roped in to play the lead in the action drama, which will be produced by Jayantilal Gada of PEN India Ltd.

The original film had South superstar Suriya headlining the project, with Shruti Haasan and Anushka Shetty as female leads.

Turns out, Deol was mighty impressed with the original Tamil film and was more than happy to be part of the remake. The actor will reprise Suriya's role of a tough-as-nails cop, chasing a big criminal syndicate.

Thakur Anoop Singh, who played the villain in the Suriya-starrer, will be seen in the remake too. The makers are yet to zero in on the female lead. Chandran is currently in the US, giving the finishing touches to the screenplay.

S3 will go on floors by the end of the year, after Deol wraps up his son Karan's debut film, Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, and his home production Yamla Pagla Deewana 3.
