Embrace your body
While black is said to flatter all body types, the silhouette or the shape of your outfit is the key. If you are tall, feel free to don a tight number that shows off your legs.

Those with heavy arms can opt for broader necklines; women heavy on top should try shift or a-line dresses.

Baby, it's cold outside
Mumbai winters might be a joke, but what's the harm in putting on some layers? Wear patterned tights with polka dots, stripes or floral motif. You can also try cape jackets that rest on your shoulders and if long enough, can help make your derrière appear slimmer. Fringed jackets can help add a bohemian feel to your night out.
Texture talk
Avoid shiny materials and opt for surface textured blacks. This adds visual interest to the outfit and you can mix textures too, like model Kendall Jenner does here. Pic/AFP
Stand out
You might be surrounded by a sea of black, but a coloured or printed pair of heels or a sling purse will make you stand out.

1) Instead of the usual winged liner, opt for a coloured liner. Either try a single solid colour stroke or do a two tone with black and a colour.
2) If you feel your dress is boring, go voluminous with your hair. Spray dry shampoo and volumiser for big hair like actress Nimrat Kaur. Pic/AFP
3) 'Tis the season to be glittery! Try glitter on your eyelids and nails. Light dabs work best as heavy handed make-up might make you look like a trapeze artiste.
Beyond LBD
If not a dress, you can try jumpsuits, dungarees or culottes with crop tops (in pic). If black is not your colour, go for jewel tones or pastels, depending on the level of subtlety you prefer. The closest one can get to black is navy blue. Ditch heels and put on brogues that will take you through the night.

Accessorise
Earcuffs, statement neckpieces can glam up any outfit. You can also try fun brooches for a spark. Also on offer in markets are hair chains, matha pattis and bun pins if you wish to skip body jewellery.
