She's getting ready for a photo shoot. She's wearing curlers in those long tresses and is having make-up slapped on.

She looks every bit the suave cover girl but beneath all that shimmer and shine, she's just another twenty-plus girl who loves to shop, hang out with her friends and talk boys.

Alternating between giggling and fixing me with her intense gaze, Sonam Kapoor dishes about her upcoming release Delhi-6, her single status, fashion fundas, and why she loves sleeping!u00a0u00a0

At this stage what's more important, a hit or critical appreciation?
Both yaar, why can't I have both? I think both are important.u00a0
u00a0
What's the most dominant emotion close to the release, anxiety or excitement?
Definitely excitement, I don't believe in getting anxious. If I do get anxious then I can't sleep, and I like getting my sleep, so it's as simple as that!u00a0

Your first film belonged to Ranbir, is Delhi-6 your film?
I think Delhi-6 is everybody's film. It's a film about the people of India, about the people of Delhi-6. It's a director's film.u00a0

Three differences between your first and second director?
Their working styles are totally different. As far as approach towards work goes, I can say that Bhansali makes oil paintings while Mehra makes watercolour paintings. What's common is that they are both visionaries and believe in good cinema.
u00a0
Did Mehra make you cry like Bhansali did?
Nothing of that sort happened on Delhi-6. Between Bhansali and me there were intial teething problems after which we got along like a house on fire. Sanjay takes care of every detail, but Rakeysh lets you be. He allows you to interpret the character to your ability and reprimands you when you stray from it.

Mehra almost didn't sign you because he thought you were a Juhu brat, how did you convince him?
Yes, I know. I was like, I am so not like that! I believe in strong work ethic, it's something my dad has taught me. I come from a producers' family so I know that if I am late on the sets or don't put in my best then the project with suffer as will everyone associated with it. I remember my dad and Boney chacha being so stressed out when actors played hookey. I don't want it to happen to me, so why would I do it to someone else? If I am working and have to report on the set at 9 am, I will! I treat acting like a serious job.u00a0

Suddenly you are the 'IT' girl, everyone from Karan Johar to Mallika Sherawat is raving about you, what has changed?
I just love Karan, but I think he's biased because he is close to the family. It's great to know that someone who's so intelligent (and he's one filmmaker I'm dying to work with) is saying such nice things about you. And a compliment from Mallika Shera-wat is awesome. It's one actor praising another, it's pretty cool.u00a0
u00a0
You have been lauded for your dress sense; does a stylist shop for you?
I don't have anyone who styles me. I love clothes. I am like this little girl who just loves to dress up. However I don't make a conscious effort to stand out. It's a part of my personality, I like to look nice and get complimented. Dressing up is almost like a hobby for me. All my friends are in fashion. Out of 15 school friends, 13 are pursuing their careers in fashion. Most of them are junior stylists in GQ and Vogue, while others have their own boutiques. We mostly end up talking about fashion.u00a0
u00a0
Anyone from the industry whose fashion sense you admire?
Yes, I love the way Lolo (Karisma Kapoor) dresses up. She's basic, elegant, simple and really good. Even Twinkle dresses up well. Among the guys, I like Imran Khan in his T-shirts. He looks awesome in his suits as well as his tees. He's really confident and I like how he wears these different sneakers. Abroad, I like how Cate Blanchett dresses, Sienna Miller looks good and obviously Kate Moss is a fashion icon!

You must spend a fortune on your clothes!u00a0
I'm a total shopaholic! In fact, mom and dad keep telling me it's recession and you can't be shopping like this, but I tell them I am actually helping the economy by spending all my hard-earned cash! I think I need to do something about this habit though.
u00a0
Your co-star Ranbir and your contemporary Deepika have had three releases each since their debuts, why are you taking it slow?
I'm doing what I like. If a bad script comes to me, I say, "Dude, I don't understand what you're saying!" I don't mind working with anybody as long as the script and the director is good. That's why I immediately said yes to Delhi-6, because here was a film I could take my whole family to watch. I don't have to be embarrassed about anything. The script is something that I need to like.u00a0
u00a0
No ambition to make it to the No 1 position quickly?
What's the point? Whatever goes up has to come down. I don't want to get there without enjoying the process. I like the journey. It's the one advice my dad has given me. I mean he's gone through many ups and downs, but the best thing was he never realised whether he was up and down, because he was so busy having a good time. I'd rather have a good time than be number 1!
u00a0
You're the only young actress not dating anyone. Deliberate or is there a dearth of good guys?
Total dearth of good guys, yaar! Seriously, there is nobody. Most of my guy friends, just want me to be their friend, or they just find me hot! I am a total romantic at heart, and have huge expectations set for myself. I am very old-school in my notion about a boyfriend. I want him to be good-looking, caring, have a sense of humour. I want a total Mills and Boon guy, and am ready to wait until he comes! I am just enjoying being single and having a good time.u00a0
u00a0
How would your parents react if you bought a guy home?
They will be very chilled, in fact they are very cool. They always tell me do what I feel like.

Place fame, money and power in the order of importance.
I think it would be fame, money and power!
