Singing along with Sukhi

You might not hear his voice too often, but Sukhwinder Singh does manage to leave a strong impact with his few chosen songs. Whether it's Chaiyya Chaiyya, Omkara or the latest Udd Udd Dabangg, the power in his voice has wowed audiences. So Sukhwinder, who's lent his voice for Yeh Saali Zindagi, Angel and the upcoming Ra. One, speaks to CS about recognitions and his passion for cricket:

Of awards and rewards
While many think getting an award is the ultimate recognition of your talent, I have never hankered after them. A jury decides whether you deserve an award or not. They may or may not like your singing. Your actual reward comes from the public, your listeners. When they love your music, it's invaluable. Having said that, when someone gives me an award, I accept it gracefully and feel humble to have been elected for the honour.u00a0

High on music
I really enjoyed singing the title track of Dabangg and am glad that it has topped the music charts. However, I must add that the manner in which Salman Khan presented the song was an added USP. The way it's been presented, you feel like a wrestler is singing it (laughs out loud). It oozes so much attitude and confidence. In fact, my other title tracks like Chak De India! and Omkara were also in this genre. When you get such numbers to sing, you can free your soul and do your best to get this kind of an effect.

Taking it easy
Nowadays, I am taking on work very selectively, as I want to devote some time for myself. Fitness is an important aspect of my lifestyle, and I spend most mornings working out at the Juhu beach. I have made friends with some of the kids around, and we play football or cricket at times. Watching films is another passion of mine. However, I haven't been to a theatre in a long time and plan to do so soon. Meeting friends and eating out are other things I want to indulge in.u00a0

Cricket crazy
Yeah, like every other Indian, I too catch up with the World Cup action. Sachin Tendulkar is my favourite cricketer. But more importantly, I love the fact that Sachin never comes across as arrogant. He's always gracious and humble. All of us can learn so much from him. I don't want to sound vain, but I think the song Chak De India! fits him to the tee. He has the same amount of passion like that number. I'm really going to root for him this World Cup.
