Sanjay Kapoor will be making his theatre debutu00a0in Paritosh Painter's play Chori Chori Chupke Chupke.
The playu00a0 produced by Kamlesh Bhuptani and written by Paritosh and Vishnu Mehra, marksu00a0 Sanjay's foray into the world of theatre.
My first time
Sanjay, who is busy rehearsing these days, confirms, "I am acting in a play for the first time. I have not acted in school or college plays before. We will leave in November and take the play first to Dubai, then to US and Canada. There will be 15 shows in all.u00a0
I am extremely excited. Paritosh is famous in the world of theatre and is known for his comedies." The play is quite like the movie Saajan Chale Sasuralu00a0- but with a difference. CCCC is about a man with two wives and another woman.
Alag hai
Kapoor says that acting for stage is very different than acting in front of a camera, "Initially, I found it difficult, as in films we can do retakes but not in plays. Everything has to be done in two hours, and you have to know all your lines. We have been rehearsing for more than 20 days for about 4 hours a day and only now, have I got the hang of it."
He feels that there is an NRI audience which tires of seeing live dance shows by stars and that such shows are on their way out. "People abroad, these days, prefer to watch plays as they are fed up of dance shows. In recent times, Paresh Rawal, Shabana Azmi and others have gone abroad to stage successful plays. It's catering to a different audience."
I'm pampered
Sanjay makes his debut with Delnaaz Paul, new girl Manisha Kelkar and Kashmera Shah. "The rest are theatre personalities, so I get a lot of pampering. The only problem is being with three women so I am there in all the scenes and that becomes very tiring for me as I don't get a break at all," Sanjay laughs.
Sanjay also debuts as a film producer with It's My Life starring Harman Baweja and Genelia D' Souza. "My film is into post production and mixing now. I plan to release it next year. In November, I leave for the play and return by mid-December by which time I will be ready for the promotion of my film."
Timing improves
He says he is not afraid of peforming in front of a live audience. "I have done international shows with Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit for 25000-plus audiences. But yes, acting in a play has improved my performance as an actor. You improvise, you become sharper and your timing improves."
