Salman Khan was attending the wedding ceremony of his rakhi-sister, Shweta Rohira and 'Fukrey' actor Pulkit Samrat in Goa on Sunday when he heard about choreographer Jay Borade's demise. Having worked with him in several films, Salman did not waste any time in jetting back to Mumbai to pay his last respects to the dance-meister. He was 77.

Sources said that on landing, the star headed straight to the hospital and accompanied the bereaved family in an ambulance carrying Jay Borade's body to the morgue. He, however, could not stay till the last rites were performed as he had to leave for the shoot of Kabir Khan's 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' in Delhi.

A source who attended the wedding says, "The main rituals had just got over and a party was to follow. But Salman got a call about the death and left for Mumbai immediately."

Jay Borade was the first choreographer to win a National Award for Sooraj Barjatya's 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun'. He suffered a serious injury a couple of months ago and was battling for his life. When Salman learnt about his condition, he shifted him to a suburban hospital and got his surgery done. He also ensured that his personal doctor took care of Borade.

Bhupender Sayan, general secretary of Indian Film Dance Directors Association, says: "Salman was taking care of Jay Borade from the time he got to know about his health. While talking to Borade's son I got to know Salman was in the hospital on Sunday night and accompanied him in the ambulance from the hospital to the morgue."
