Salman Khan opens up on his favourite co-star, Katrina Kaif, his first meeting with her and how he didn't think he was movie star material

Salman Khan's the one person in the industry Katrina Kaif has immense trust in. She is the calm in the chaotic world of Salman Khan. And it is this deep friendship that reflects seamlessly on the big screen. In an interview for the December edition of Vogue India, Khan opens up on his favourite co-star and how he didn't think he was movie star material.

Prod him on his first meeting with the then-18-year-old Kaif and he recalls, "It was at a small get-together. She had come home for a party and I thought she was one of the sweetest girls ever. She knew my sister and all my friends, but she didn't know me." A friendly chat at the party led to the blossoming of a new romance. Khan and Kaif were reportedly in a relationship for four years before they parted ways in 2009. However, the two continue to be the closest of friends, even sharing screen space in Tiger Zinda Hai.
The coming year will mark 30 years in the industry for Khan. Considering he is the firstborn of celebrated screenwriter Salim Khan, one might assume that Khan always knew he wanted to be a movie star. However, he admits that it wasn't so. "I was like, how can I be an actor? When I walk into a place, nobody notices me. I remember Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff; when they walked in, you'd know someone had come. So I decided that until that happens to me, I'll never make it," says Khan.
The superstar adds that he decided early on in his career that he won't play grey characters, as he is aware that his fans look up to him as a role model. "When someone is going through a rough patch, they turn to a film hero to see how he handles it."
