Don't just wear the pants, now, go all the way and flaunt the suit. Women have always borrowed from men's wardrobes and wearing a suit will be the easiest way to get slick, be it for a meeting, a business brunch or even a night out at a classy lounge

Suit yourselves, ladies!

Look who's wearing the pants!

Black Beauties: Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie's (top) brilliantly tailored suits might go well in their husbands' wardrobes too, but the closed shoes help add some feminine chutzpah

Try experimenting with prints which are still going strong this spring as singer Solange Knowles does

True to her edgy personality, singer Rita Ora wears a very butch suit and accessories with a lot of metal

Freida Pinto's monochrome suit is appealing and a colourful clutch adds some pop

Runway Hits

For its Autumn-Winter 2014 collection, Armani mixed up the suits with a variety of bottom wear, such as umbrella skirts, palazzo pants and flared capris. Pics/Getty

Always trust Jean Paul Gaultier to take some risks; here the shoulder padding gives an edge to the suit

Go bold with one solid colour as seen on an outfit by designer Sailex (blue) and Pranav Mishra and Shyma Shetty, at a Fashion Week in the city. Also, try ones in soft pastels, which is ruling the ramp this season. Pics/Rane Ashish, Satyajit Desai.

Designer help
Suits work well as one can break these down for formal and casual wear — wear it with jeans or chinos for a simple do or trousers for a formal event. Never carry big bags that add bulk to your crisp suit. Go for clutches. Good tailoring is of utmost importance — the drape on your shoulders, the fit of your back should just be perfect. If you are opting for an overall printed suit, pick a colour from the print and wear a solid coloured top of the same shade so that it looks co-ordinated and not confused. The length of your jacket should not be very long, neither should
the sleeves.
