A lot like Arjun On a game show that he hosts, Amitabh Bachchan revealed that though he is a fan of Pushpa 2: The Rule actor Allu Arjun, he’d choose to not be compared with him. Interacting with a participant who said she was a fan of both Bachchan and Arjun, the megastar said, “Allu Arjun is an incredibly talented artiste, and the recognition he has received is well-deserved. I’m also a huge fan of his. Recently, his movie was released, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you should. But don’t compare me to him.” When the participant insisted that the two have similarities, Bachchan asked her to elaborate her point. “Both of you have incredible entrances, and your styles are also quite similar. When you both perform comedy scenes, you bite your collar and blink your eyes. Also, both of your voices have a certain richness. Meeting you has fulfilled my dream; now I just need to meet Allu Arjun,” she responded. Life out of a suitcase When it comes to inspiring individuals to travel the world, the only social media accounts that would come second to those of travel agencies are those of celebrities. The actor took time to soak in the sights, sounds, and spirit of the country alongside her close-knit group of friends. A self-proclaimed cricket enthusiast, Kher—who attended the India vs Australia third Test match at The Gabba—spoke of the high-energy atmosphere of the stadium. Beyond the field, she embraced Australia’s beauty, and shared pictures of her holding a koala and feeding kangaroos. 27 December,2024 07:29 AM IST | Mumbai | The Hitlist TeamEarlier this week, it emerged that filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya has found his new Prem in Ayushmann Khurrana. The actor has been roped in for the filmmaker’s yet-untitled next. With the male lead in place, the obvious question is: Whom will Khurrana romance in the family drama? Insiders tell us that Sara Ali Khan and Triptii Dimri are the top contenders for the role. Sooraj Barjatya We’ve heard that the two actors are in discussion for the role, which requires someone who can embody Barjatya’s vision of grace. An industry insider revealed, “Sara has the charm and mainstream appeal that could align with the Rajshri universe, while Triptii’s nuanced performances in films like Bulbbul [2020] and Qala [2022] make her a strong candidate to bring a layered approach to the character. Ayushmann is already doing another film with Sara whereas it will be a new jodi if he teams up with Triptii. That said, Triptii is busy for a good part of next year with Vishal Bhardwaj’s film on Hussain Ustara and two other projects. Sooraj-ji will meet both actors in January, and a look test will determine the decision. Their chemistry with Ayushmann will also be another factor.” If things go as planned, Barjatya will take the project on floors in the summer of 2025.
27 December,2024 07:22 AM IST | Mumbai | Mohar BasuAt Rs 11.25 crore, Baby John is being touted as Varun Dhawan’s biggest opener in the past five years. But the Christmas release’s performance has left trade analysts unimpressed, with them believing that a festival offering warrants higher footfall. “The Day-One numbers should have been in the range of R15 to 20 crore; instead, they are apparently in the range of Rs 10-12 crore. Reviews and word of mouth are not strong. It might be a big opening for Varun, but for a Christmas release, it’s not good. A superstar is needed for Christmas,” says trade expert Girish Wankhede. Kalees’ directorial venture, also starring Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi, is a remake of the Tamil hit, Theri (2016). The average numbers have highlighted another aspect—the diminishing appeal of remakes. While some adaptations like Drishyam 2 (2022) have defied the odds, recent attempts such as Shehzada (2023) have faltered. Wankhede explains, “The success formula for remakes is becoming obsolete. Viewers have evolved, and they demand fresh narratives or significant reinventions.” Interestingly, Pushpa 2: The Rule, which now enters its fourth week, is earning better than Baby John. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared on his social media handle that Allu Arjun’s actioner “remains the top choice for moviegoers, even with a sharp reduction in shows to accommodate Baby John”. Dhawan’s film has a limited window to make its mark before Ram Charan’s Game Changer releases on January 10. Wankhede adds, “Even though there is a clean window, this film will not do as well. If you see previous strong Christmas releases, it has always been either a Shah Rukh Khan or an Aamir Khan [offering]. You need a big package to get audiences to cinemas.”
27 December,2024 07:14 AM IST | Mumbai | Mohar BasuMozez Singh took on the job of directing Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous with a simple idea—he wanted people to get inspired by the popular Punjabi musician’s life. Did that thought obstruct him from being objective about Honey, who has led a controversial public life and made music laced with sexist stereotypes? “I had to maintain a balance between letting my feelings come in for Honey and his family, and do my job as a filmmaker. If I had let this balance go even for a second, my film would’ve become lop-sided,” starts Mozez, whose work on Zubaan (2015) landed him the Netflix documentary. But being objective is easier said than done. Mozez remembers a moment during the filming when he found it particularly challenging to maintain objectivity. “When I was talking to his mother about Honey’s mental health crisis, she would sound so emotional every time she answered. So, I had to have an inner dialogue with myself, ‘Am I manipulating the situation or am I asking her because I want to actually know?’ There were times when I wouldn’t go beyond a point because I didn’t want to manipulate them,” he states. Mozez Singh Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous offers an unvarnished, warts-and-all look at the rapper’s life, including his battle with bipolar disorder. Mention that the docu sensitively reflects Honey’s mental health condition, and the filmmaker pegs it to one factor—trust. “He arrived at the point where he was willing to talk about it on camera, show his medicine pouch and pop the medicine on film. He trusted me by then; he trusted that I’d show his story with integrity and that I wouldn’t sensationalise his battle. He understood that I was hunting for the truth; I wasn’t there to make a puff piece on him. Once he understood that I’d never present [his mental health condition] in a way that would humiliate or embarrass him, he gave me everything.” Yo Yo Honey Singh While the film delves deep into Honey’s mental health struggles, it skims through his alleged drug addiction. Mozez says he was conscious about not reducing the musician’s battle with bipolar disorder to his drug use. “Honey was never a drug addict. It is a misconception. He dabbled in smoking pot, which he spoke about in the film. The mental health [condition] came at the same time. So, the stories became crazy where people said [it was] because he is on drugs. But it wasn’t drug [related], it was a mental health thing. So, I decided to focus more on his mental health. That was the truth. I thought if I emphasised his drug habit, it would seem like all of it happened to him because of the drugs. But it didn’t.” One of the documentary’s highlights is Salman Khan speaking about his fondness for the rapper, who wrote and sang a track for Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023). What started as a shoot with Khan ended up as a long chat about fame, recalls the director. “He had given us one hour of his time, but he was there for three hours. He answered everything that I asked. At some point, it stopped being a shoot and became a chat. It was interesting to talk to him about the price of fame because he has had his own journey with it. He was warm, kind and forthcoming. [People like him], who have such crazy fame, see it for what it is, but they are also deeply grounded in the reality of their own lives,” says Mozez.

26 December,2024 09:47 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentArjun Kapoor was an assistant director on Salman Khan's Wanted in 2009, and that is when Bhaijaan saw potential in the actor and encouraged him to lose weight and pursue acting. In conversation with Raj Shammani, Kapoor heaped praises on Salman Khan and stated, “He has always looked at cinema as an audience’s medium, he has never looked at it only as an artiste. Even today, he does stage shows and Bigg Boss. These are mass mediums. He operates for the masses. He has worked for the audience and then he has built that audience. Maybe this comes to him because he grew up around Salim-Javed. He put it to use in mainstream cinema." Arjun Kapoor on Salman's tough guy image “He is not a bully. Anybody who has a tough image… When you are not always openly warm in the first few minutes, you feel they are being a certain way. There is a lot of warmth to that man. It’s just he might not give it in the first second. But you will have to allow that to happen," Arjun Kapoor stated while talking about Salman's 'tough guy' image. Further, while calling him the 'fearless man,' Arjun added, “He is the most fearless man in the world. I have never seen him shirk adversity, responsibility. He has not changed. He has always been the same person at the core. He has a very strong mind." Arjun Kapoor reveal Salman motivated him for weight lose The Singham Again actor also praised Khan for motivating him to lose weight, which led to his massive transformation. While talking about the same, Arjun added, "My weight-loss journey started because he said, give it a shot. He actually made me realise that. I wanted to become a filmmaker. I never thought of becoming an actor because I weighed 150 kgs. So when that conversation happened with him, he said, give it a shot. He saw me dancing and joking, and he saw an entertainer in me. This is what planted in me. He helped me through my physical transformation." Arjun Kapoor is said to have had a past relationship with Salman Khan’s sister, Arpita Khan, before he began dating his sister-in-law, Malaika Arora.

The film has all the essentials of a Varun starrer – father-daughter relationship #BabyJohnReview.” Mid-Day’s review of Baby John Meanwhile, Mid-day has also reviewed the film, and a part of our review reads, “Keerthy Suresh is adequate as Meera. Her love story with Varun is enjoyable, but they have no visible chemistry. Varun tries everything – dance, romance, action, fatherly emotions, social and moral wokeness, but Salman Khan steals the claps and whistles in his 5-minute action scene at the end. Shows that the younger stars still have a long way to go.”

Why Sonu Sood rejected the Chief Minister’s position In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Sonu Sood was asked about joining politics, to which he said, “I was offered the position of Chief Minister. When I refused, they told me to become deputy chief minister. These were very big people in the country who also offered me a seat in the Rajya Sabha. He said, "People join politics for two reasons: to earn money or to gain power. I'm not interested in either of them. If it's about helping people, I'm already doing that. I fear losing my freedom.” About Sonu Sood’s directorial debut with Fateh Talking about Fateh, the film is a gripping tale of courage, resilience, and the fight against cybercrime.
