Actress Priyanka Chopra will be endorsing the government's flagship Skill India campaign. The National Skill Development Corporation has roped in the Bollywood star as ambassador for the initiative.
It is said that PeeCee expressed interest in the initiative and will collaborate on a pro bono basis. She will use her celebrity status to motivate youngsters to hone their abilities through a media campaign.
Earlier, Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, Bollywood actors Sidharth Malhotra and Shabana Azmi and singer Mohit Chauhan, were also associated with Skill India as goodwill envoys.
"We have given a letter to Priyanka Chopra [to be our brand ambassador]. She had shown interest in it," National Skill Development Corporation MD and CEO, Manish Kumar, said.
According to Kumar, the media team associated with NSDC will try to encash the global youth icon image of Priyanka.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Skill India campaign in July 2015. The government aims to train 40 crore people by 2022.
