Both the People's Choice Award winners and international pop divas create waves in the online world
Platinum-selling singer and songwriter, Katy Perry, is known to be amongst the most successful international pop sensations in the world. In 2010, her album Teenage Dream spawned five number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 becoming the first album in history recorded by a female artist to achieve this. Katy is also a nine-time People’s Choice Awards winner in just the last four years — most recently taking home the award for Favourite Female Artist. She is the second most ‘followed’ and ‘liked’ celebrity from America, behind only to Lady Gaga on social media. In 2011, Katy Perry fans voted her to win Favorite Internet Sensation.

Speaking on her award, Katy said, “I just want to say thank you to all the fans of course, because this is an awards show that is voted by people… not just a computer, so thank you people so much, I love you and I’ll see you on tour!”
Nearer home, Bollywood’s desi-girl Priyanka Chopra also remains connected to her fans worldwide through the online medium. She is the most ‘followed’ and ‘liked’ female celebrity from India. In 2008, Priyanka’s role in Fashion earned her the National Film Award for Best Actress.
More recently, her leading roles in Don 2, Agneepath, and Barfi! have brought critical and commercial success. Last year, Priyanka signed a recording agreement to release her first international music album.
Priyanka received the People’s Choice Award for Favourite International Music Debut which was guest presented by Viacom18 Group CEO, Sudhanshu Vats. She collected the award for her debut single In My City, featuring will.i.am, which went on to hit triple platinum in India.
Speaking at the PCA’s, Priyanka said, “This is extremely extra special because I haven’t won an award like this before. For me this is a very big deal, and because this was my dad’s dream, thank you to all the people who voted for me and who think that I deserved this award.”
“We are thrilled to have Priyanka on board to introduce the PCA in India and perform at the event,” said executive producer Akash Sharma. “With her experience, mainstream appeal and status as one of the top female artists of our time, PCA has the opportunity to push the boundaries of Indian popular culture to the world.”
The People’s Choice Awards has been licensed in India by Bulldog Media & Entertainment from Mark Burnett’s One Three Media. Bulldog also co-produces the show in India along with Colors and handles the PCA site (www.peopleschoiceindia.com), voting and on the social media exclusively. Bulldog has cleared the telecast for PCA India in more than 50 countries around the world and will distribute the property in further territories.
