Publicly apologises to wife Alexandra Copley for lying that they weren't wed

Earlier this month, Aryan Vaid denied being hitched to Alexandra Copley ('I Don't Do'; HiTLIST, March 4). He now wants to set the record straight.

A source says, "Aryan and Alexa had a registered marriage on January 14 but he did not tell anyone even his family as it was a spur-of-the-moment decision.

Bridging the gap

Alexandra left for the USA the very day they got married and they haven't lived together even for a day.

Aryan, who has had bad luck with his relationships, was wary about making it public but now that the marriage survived over three months, he is feeling more optimistic.

The source continues, "He now hopes to go to the US soon, meet her and bridge the gap by living together soon. Marriage used to make him nervous earlier but not anymore."

Personal differences

Aryan now regrets denying his marriage, which clearly must have upset his wife, "There were some personal differences which prevented me."

However he now shares details, "Alexa and I met in Mumbai at a Juhu nightclub on Halloween Night and she was leaving on the 14th and I decided it had to be done it was that day especially since our application was already filed with the registrar.

Denying my marriage the last time, wasn't a particularly proud moment for me it was typically Bollywood cowardice or bravado whichever way one looks at it."

Aryan also wants to give Alexa her lawful status, "I owe her an apology for denying our marriage. I know it was wrong and I want to apologise to her for the hurt caused by my denial.

It was foolish and cowardly on my part and I need to stand up for her dignity."

Telling it like it is

Alexandra Copley, an adjunct photography instructor in Columbus State Community responds to questions:
Why keep your marriage a secret?

It was Aryan's idea not to tell anyone in India. I told my whole family and everyone in the USA. I am not a fan of the traditional idea of marriage.

He and I are not traditional people so we decided to redefine what marriage means but that doesn't mean we don't love each other unconditionally.

What do you love about Aryan?

I love that he is also untraditional in his thinking, we are both very adventurous. We make a good couple because he and I understand each other on every level physical, spiritual, emotional and intellectual.
How will you work out their cultural differences?

Aryan will come to the USA when he has a break. We Skype each other and talk every day on the phone more than once a day.

Love is unconditional and we will make it work even when times are tough like they are right now.

I will move to India when my work here is done and start my photography business there but he and I will eventually settle in the USA.
