Not ready to back down, Kallol fights bling with black

Kallol Datta is no Doogie Howser. But the 25 year-old performed his first autopsy, a dissection of the decaying mindset perpetrated by a faction of established designers who sell bling packaged as style for the "global, confident woman".

Models Monikangana Dutta and Sonakshi Sinha shared the ramp wearing what Kallol terms, "Clothes to appease the Middle Eastern buyers". The dresses were crafted from wool and cotton, with a matt gold 3D blouse in silk chiffon.

Kallol isn't happy with bling being sold as fashion, and his discontent was palpable. Though we were game for a longer debate, his fairly short collection of 19 outfits did manage to evoke a sense of grief, an inventive one at that.

The Capricornian got back to the basics of fashion, using simpler techniques like tie-n-dye to stir up a colour story in mostly black garments, and complicated 3D construction and ruching. Inverted conical details used as fasteners that resembled the Topor (a type of conical headgear worn by Bengali grooms), tassels dangling from socks worn under school shoes and pinstripes engaged in a dialogue with whoever cared to listen.

Mercifully, Kallol has a mind that doesn't believe in sugar-coating words. His post card press release read, "Forms were created with the idea to create a modern pamphlet for design, staying away from 'moronic' personal 'yarns' stories." He even ended his show with, "Not Ready to make nice. I'm not ready to back down. Cause I'm mad as hell", by Dixie Chicks. We'd be disappointed if he ever cools down.
