The last film under JP Dutta’s production banner, JP Films, hit theatres nearly a decade ago — Umrao Jaan in 2006 — but his daughter, Nidhi, wants him back in the game. She has launched a production house called JP Genes that will aim at nurturing and promoting young talented filmmakers.

A source says, “Nidhi has already started reading scripts and will be announcing a new film early next year. Although she is heading the production house, she wants her father to be actively involved in it.” Interestingly, Nidhi’s Bollywood debut with Jee Bharke Jee Le will also be released early next under JP Genes.
The veteran filmmaker will, however, continue with his directorial pursuits for his own banner.
Nidhi confirms the story and says, “The research work and permission required to make the kind of films he makes takes a lot of time, so there is a huge gap between his films’ releases. Keeping that in mind, we wanted to expand our company and that’s when I thought of coming up with JP Genes. We will promote young talent. I have been getting scripts and will soon announce films.”
