Seen lunching at The Taj Chambers recently was Sunil Kanti Roy, promoter and managing director of the Rs 10,000 crore Peerless Group, one of eastern India's most respected business houses.

Next stop, Mumbai

Although Hospitality is their key area of growth, they’re also into sectors like healthcare, mutual funds, realty and financial products. Among other interesting future projects, Sunil Kanti Roy discussed his exciting, new hotel project in Navi Mumbai with CS:

Navi Mumbai calling
Expecting to exploit the growing prospects in the hospitality sector in Western India, Roy is honing in on an excellent site in a prime location in Navi Mumbai where he plans to set up a spanking new hotel to take advantage of Navi Mumbai’s growing importance and prosperity. “We also anticipate that with the new airport coming up in Panvel, Navi Mumbai will become a crucial part of this city’s business map,” says Roy.

Awards galore
The indefatigable Roy is all set to also launch his iconic, award winning Bengali restaurant Aaheli in South Mumbai. Aaheli has just bagged The Times Food Award and the Miele Award from Singapore. Last year, Roy himself won the prestigious Diamond Eye Award for Quality, Commitment and Excellence in Geneva.

A look at the future
“No hotel chain in India can be complete without a strong presence in Mumbai,” says Roy with a twinkle in his eye. “Don’t be surprised if you find more things happening out here from the Peerless Group. Hospitality is our key area of growth. But we are also into healthcare, mutual funds, realty, financial products and Western India, for us, is one of the key markets of the future.”

Getting bigger by the day
Peerless celebrated its eightieth year last year and has been present in this metropolis for over half a century. It has offices all over the city. “We have been here for 50 years. We belong to the city and that is how we hope to be for the next 50 years and more,” says Roy as he strides out.

Next move? Goa, say rumours. And another big hotel project...u00a0
