Neeti Mohan joins UN's war against trafficking

Joining the likes of Hollywood celebrities Ashton Kutcher, Nicholas Cage, Demi Moore and Ashley Judd, playback singer Neeti Mohan has collaborated with the United Nations for its women empowerment campaign. To mark her association with the UN, Neeti will unveil a single, Udne De, later this week.

Vanessa Carlton are participating in the initiative

Says a source, "Over 60 renowned artistes and dignitaries from around the world are participating in the 'Music To Inspire – Artists UNited Against Human Trafficking' triple album. It is a collective fight by the music community to raise social awareness and end human trafficking. Neeti is the first female singer from India to join the project. AR Rahman is the only other music personality from the country to have pledged support to the initiative."

Jimmy Carter are participating in the initiative

A 60+ track collection of inspiring music will be officially released at an event at the UN headquarters in New York by the end of this week or early next week.

Quincy Jones are participating in the initiative

Neeti says, "Crime against women has become a global issue, an issue that shames us all. I had written Udne De during the Nirbhaya incident in 2012. However, I experienced some sort of an inner turmoil and could never release the track because it felt too personal, almost as if I was crying out loud and nobody could hear me.

I still feel the same every time I read about injustice against women. So, I wanted to take a stand on a global level."

Other celebs, who are part of the project, include 28-time Grammy winner Quincy Jones, ex US President Jimmy Carter, Anoushka Shankar, Michael Franti, Vanessa Carlton and John Oates. Proceeds from the album will benefit the UN Voluntary Trust Fund.
